Jungkook fluttered his eyes open, only able to see the uncovered windows, bright beams of sunlight illuminating the whole room. He groaned, turning around as he closed his eyes, and stretched his arms. He sat up straight, looking towards his side noticing how neatly the covers were done.
Waking up to an empty bed wasn’t something new to him.It didn’t really affect him whether Irene was there or not. He walked inside the washroom, brushing his teeth and finishing his morning routine. He walked down the stairs, yawning again as he made his way towards the kitchen.
The house seemed oddly quiet today. Not that it was noisy or something every other day, but he felt like he was all alone and Irene wasn’t there. He called out her name, slowly walking around the house as he searched for her in every room.
“Did she leave already?” he mumbled to himself, ruffling his hair as he dropped himself on the couch, pulling out his phone. Suddenly his phone started ringing and he softly sighed before answering.
“Yes Appa?” he answered. “Uh Jungkook-ah is everything alright between you and Irene?” he asked. Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows, not really sure about what exactly his dad was questioning. “Ummm I guess, yeah....what’s...what’s wrong?” he asked, flipping himself on the couch.
“Uh Irene ....she...she called off the wedding.” His dad said. “Wait....what?” Jungkook asked, astounded as he sat up straight, one of his palms firmly pressed on the couch.“Yeah, her dad called me and told me that they’re gonna call off the wedding. But on the bright side....since it was Irene’s choice, he decided to let us go with that whole secret thing.” His dad continued.
“Woah I can’t ...I can’t believe it.” Jungkook said, a part of him kinda feeling better. It almost felt like a rock had been lifted off his shoulders. He felt like he could breathe again. “Yeah, anyways, if you can, ask Irene if there’s anything wrong and talk things out. You guys don’t have to get back together, but at least stay in good terms because you know, I don’t want to fall into that man’s trap again.” His dad said.
“Yes...Yes Appa, I’ll...I’ll do that.” Jungkook said, immediately hanging up as he stood up and scrolled down to Irene’s contact, pressing 'call'.
He walked around the living room, one of his palms holding his waist as he waited for Irene to pick up. Once he heard her say “Hello?” he immediately sat down. “Oh my god, Irene where are you and...and what happened? You know, the sudden.... cancellation?” he asked, his eyes big.
“Yeah, I realised it was the best for the both of us.” She replied. “Uh...what...what do you mean?” he asked, now resting back on the couch as he ran his fingers through his fluffy hair. “I realised that what both of us deserve to live the lives we want.” She said.
Jungkook didn’t say anything, a little lost as he tried to contemplate what Irene was implying to." Jungkook, you deserve love and to be honest, I do too. So tell me, what’s the point of being with each other if we don’t love each other. I don’t think a relationship would last long just because one of our dads got blackmailed by the other.” She said.
“Irene...I....I don’t understand...I mean, yeah I get what you’re saying but where...where are you right now?” Jungkook asked.
“I’m at the airport and I’m about to leave for new York.” She said. “Wait what? All of a sudden?” Jungkook asked again. “Well, I’ve been planning this for the past few months, I guess? And it’s for my career so I think it’s the best option.” Irene said.
“Wow, why...why didn’t you tell me?” Jungkook asked. “Well, that’s because I had some things to clear before I left and speaking of which, when did we ever share anything about ourselves?” Irene asked, a bitter chuckle at the end of her sentence.
Jungkook knew what she meant by that, and to be honest, he did kinda feel bad. “Aren’t you going to ask me what I had to clear?” Irene asked. “What...What do you mean?” Jungkook was now walking around the living room as he spoke to her.
“Jungkook, in order for me to have my life settled, I also had to settle yours. And by that, I mean, I spoke to Y/n.” She said. “What the...what...what are you talking about?” Jungkook asked, immediately standing still as his eyes widened.
“Yeah, I spoke to her and I told her that I knew everything that had happened way back in high school.” Irene said. “Oh my god, what the fuck.” Jungkook whispered as his mouth was open. He couldn’t believe it. “Jungkook, I know you love her and trust me she does too. So don’t wait for anything now, and just go do what you have to, and that’s getting the love of your life back.” Irene said.
“Wait wait wait Irene, I still don’t understand.” Jungkook said, shutting his eyes tightly as he rubbed his forehead, extremely frustrated. “Jungkook, we’ve been together for what, five years now? And in those five years, I’ve learnt a lot about you. You’re someone who doesn’t really share his feelings and trust me, that really sucks. But eventually, people tend to find out everything by the way you act and do certain things. So what I’m saying is, if you want to hide something, at least do it well.” Irene said, taking a pause.
“But you know what, in this case, I’m actually happy you weren’t able to hide it well, because trust me, I really don’t want to get in between two people who love each other to the fullest, but have only been separated because of someone else’s greediness and desires. I have some pride too, and honestly, I’d want to be with someone who loves me just the same.” Irene continued.
“Irene, so you’re....so you’re telling me, Y/n knows about us....like, she knows we were in an arranged marriage?” Jungkook asked.
“Yes, she does. And trust me Jungkook, I knew everything too, all along. I knew about your relationship and how you broke up and everything. So best believe, me and y/n turned out to share a lot of things.” Irene said, leaving a chuckle at the end.
“But Irene, Y/n....she won’t take me back...I mean, she...she doesn’t love me anymore.” Jungkook softly said.
Irene huffed. “No wonder you guys are made for each other. She literally told me the same thing when I spoke to her. Jungkook, Y/n loves you, intact, you do too so the only thing left right now is for you guys to finally get back together and work things out. You guys belong to each other.” She said, a little frustrated this time, considering the fact she was repeating the exact same words she told you.
Suddenly Jungkook heard the door bell. “Jungkook, is someone at the door?” Irene asked, her voice sounding a little excited. “Yeah...yeah, there’s someone at the door.” Jungkook softly said, gulping as he looked at the closed door.
“Okay Jungkook, it’s finally time for you to go back to the person you love. And don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine cause I’m finally going to achieve something more in the field I love. I want you guys to be happy and I’d never want to get in between two lovers. So Jungkook, take care of Y/n and be happy...Bye.” Irene said, quickly ending the call as she left a partially clueless Jungkook.
Jungkook took a minute to process everything again until the door bell rang again. If, behind that door, was someone who he thought it would be, he couldn’t stand a second longer. Jungkook cursed to himself as he quickly ran towards the door, breathing heavily.
He took a deep breath as closed his eyes, collecting his posture. He held the handle of the door as he closed his eyes and twisted it.
The door opened as he softly fluttered his eyes open, only to get his orbs locked with someone’s who he held up so high in his tiny little world. Someone he wished to hold every night and every day. Someone he wished to hug and kiss every minute, not caring to be called clingy or tacky. Someone he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
“So I assume you’re single right now, Mr. Jeon?” you softly asked, your hands at the back, as you looked up at him, a cheeky smile on your face. “Y/n....” Jungkook softly said, letting out an airy chuckle as his eyes glistened. His cheeks were red and his smile was increasing.
He didn’t waste another second as he pulled you in, and hugged you, his arms tightly holding your waist. You put your arms around his neck as you hugged him back, smiling to yourself. “Y/n...I’m so sorry...I’m so sorry for everything...I shouldn’t have lied....I should’ve fought back for you....If I had done that, we would’ve been together all this...all this time.” He said, sniffling as his eyes were closed, his chin buried inside the crook of your neck.
“Kookie, don’t...don’t say that. I know how much you must’ve been holding in and suffering all alone. It’s my fault too, I...I shouldn’t have gotten mad at you....I’m sorry, Kookie “ you said, hugging him tighter.
“But whatever happened, it’s all in the past and it’s something we couldn’t change because of the timing. It was all unexpected and none of us thought it would lead to all of this. Let’s just move on from it and...and be happy now.” You said, pulling away as you looked at him.
Jungkook nodded, a tear trickling down his face, his lips curling up as he looked down at you. You cupped his face as you smiled back at him, admiring the face you’ve missed all this time. “And Kookie, just like you said, I never stopped loving you either.” You said, wiping his tear with your thumb.
Jungkook couldn’t hold it back anymore. He pulled you closer as he lowered his head and pressed his lip on yours, savouring the sweetness he had been craving for, all this time now. He was so happy to finally have you in his arms again.
Maybe you didn’t have a love story like those poetic ones in books and novels. Maybe your love story wasn’t like Romeo and Juliet or Cleopatra and Mark Antony, but it was just you and Jungkook.
Maybe it didn’t have cheesy sayings or dialogues, maybe it didn’t have cute scenarios and romantic outlines, but it definitely had something called true love. Something like pellucid waters, clear and limpid.
Sure, there were hella misunderstandings and lies were told to cover up certain situations, but the love... the love between two people was clear enough to make others understand how important it was for the two to be together.
To be together, forever and always.THE END
