TWO WEEKS LATER
“Noona, I’m done with today. I cleaned the kitchen and I also dusted your bureau cause it was a little dusty. I’ll meet you tomorrow.” Kyungseok said as he looked down at you. You smiled, nodding at him as you acknowledged his work and allowed him to call it a day.
You were sitting on the ground, somewhere in between the isles as you rested against the huge book shelf filled with books. You looked at the time on your phone, it read 9:34pm.
Just like the previous two weeks, you knew Jungkook would come to pick you up today as well. He had actually kept up his word and he always showed up at your book café to ensure that you’d get home safely under his presence.
In the past two weeks, you found yourself easing into Jungkook’s companionship. Both of you started talking normally and you also got to know a lot about him. Things weren’t that awkward as before.
What felt extremely odd was, you felt your old feelings coming back. Something you were extremely afraid of was happening. But for some reason, you didn’t choose to stop it.
You knew getting your feelings for Jungkook back was terribly wrong, but honestly, it was something way beyond your fence. Obviously, you didn’t want to feel this way, but you also couldn’t control your heart.
The way it beats every time he shows up in front of your book café, the way he greets you, the way he asks how your day was, the way he sends you off, everything was just way too much for your heart.
But when you actually gave it some serious thinking, a part of you wondered why exactly was Jungkook doing all of this. He obviously had a fiancé to take care of, but for some reason, something definitely felt off.
Not once did Jungkook ever mention anything about Irene to you. Despite the fact you were his ex girlfriend, you expected him to say one or two things about the woman he was going to spend the rest of his life with.
You knew you’d be hurt if he did so, but you still couldn’t digest the fact that he never once said anything about her. Besides, you knew that Irene would definitely have a problem if she found out that her boyfriend, who was now her fiancé, was dropping a girl to her house EVERY night who supposedly also his ex girlfriend, which you doubted, she knew.
After all, Irene didn’t go to the same high school as you and Jungkook.
You continued flipping through the pages of the book you were reading right now. You sighed, closing the book as you placed it on your lap, looking at the book shelf in front of you. You let out a deep breath, thinking about everything that was going on with your life.
Was it okay for you to continue meeting Jungkook this way? Not that you guys were doing anything wrong, but you still didn’t feel right about this whole thing. You couldn’t help but feel guilty. You were scared that you were getting too carried away at times.
“oh wow, you’re here.... I almost lost my life trying to get here.” Jungkook said panting as he walked towards you. You looked up at him. “Come on, there aren’t even that many isles in here.” You said, shaking your head as you stood up, lifting the book and placing it on the shelf.
“Ready to go?” he asked. You nodded, walking with him towards your bureau as you set everything, took your bag and proceeded your way towards the exit.
Once you and Jungkook were in his car, you clicked on your seat belt and waited for him to start the engine. As Jungkook drove, suddenly, a question popped up in your mind.
“Jungkook... Don’t get the wrong idea... but...I was just... curious...do you really think Irene is going to be alright, with...you know...you dropping me home and everything?” you stuttered a whole lot, cringing at yourself.
Jungkook's expression melted down a little bit once he heard you. “I mean, I don’t... I don’t think there’s anything wrong. Besides, she isn’t really the kind to get the wrong idea.” Jungkook answered, shrugging as he drove in the empty road.
You nodded, shifting your eyes outside the window. You decided to not give it much thought.
Suddenly you felt your stomach grumble, screaming at you that you were starving. Jungkook chuckled. “You must be really hungry.” He said, smiling as he looked at you.
You softly chuckled in embarrassment, trying to hide your face and not look at him. “Want to eat something?” he asked. “No no, that’s okay. I’ll have something once I get home.” You said, refusing his offer. “Come on, don’t be shy.” Jungkook said, a grin embracing his lips.
“No it’s...it’s really okay.” You said. Jungkook shook his head, knowing he wouldn’t be able to persuade you.
As Jungkook continued driving, you spotted the convenience store on the way. “Jungkook, stop... Stop the car.” You said, turning back as you kept your eyes fixed on the store. Jungkook immediately stopped the car by the sidewalk, a little confused.
“Why don’t we... Why don’t we have some ramen?” you asked, looking at him. “Huh?” Jungkook had a confused face.“Come on.” You said, a little excited as you got out of the car, skipping your way towards the store.
Jungkook followed you, a little lost. And when he entered the convenience store, that’s when it hit him. You loved eating ramen here.
“Wow.... It’s been so...so long since I’ve had ramen in a convenience store.” Jungkook said, looking around. “Yeah, sucks to be a big person.” He heard you say as you walked towards the cash counter, hugging two small buckets of instant ramen.
The scene of him and you eating ramen in a convenience store, way back in the time of high school flashed back inside Jungkook’s head. The memories that the both of you held seemed to always pop up in his mind due to the smallest of things.
“Come on.” You said, walking towards a table for two on the other side. Jungkook walked towards it, sitting on the other side as he faced you. He watched you as you poured the hot water inside, waiting for the noodles to cook.
“I literally haven’t eaten ramen after high school...” Jungkook softly said as he opened his pack, ready to eat it. “For real? That honestly sucks.” You said, already devouring your meal. “Remember the times we used to go to convenience stores like this and loot the shopkeepers.” Jungkook said, chortling.
“Oh my god yes. Do you remember that one time we flicked five ice creams and almost got caught, but Jimin distracted the owner.” You said, your eyes widened, a giggle erupting out of you. Jungkook laughed as he recollected that incident.
But the mentioning of Jimin’s name made his skin turn pale. You seemed to notice that, and immediately the air felt a little too awkward. “w-what happened to...us.” Jungkook asked, a weak smile on his face as he stared at the ramen.
You looked down, continuing to poke your chopstick inside the small bucket. “I seriously have no right to ask that, but... Now that I look back at us, we were almost inseparable.” Jungkook said again, his voice getting weaker and weaker.
“Y/n, it must’ve been so hard on you when I left like that, that day.” Jungkook said. You looked at him, gulping. “Jungkook....eat...eat your ramen....it’s....it’s gonna get cold.” You said, clearly trying to push away what he was talking about.
Minuets later, you and Jungkook walked back to his car, not really talking that much. But that was mostly because an amazing idea was flowing inside your mind.
“Jungkook... Why... Why don’t we go to our high school tonight?” you asked, clicking your seatbelt on. “Wait what? Right now? I mean, why all of a sudden?” Jungkook asked, confused. “You know, getting up one memory of the three of us made me feel good today, I wanna recollect more of them in the place where we created them. If you don’t have any work, or if you’re not in a hurry, can we please go?” you asked, looking at him, a soft smile on your face.
Jungkook seemed to understand your point and a bright smile appeared on his face. “Let’s go.” He said, smiling.
TWENTY MINUTES LATER
“Woah, it’s all still the same.” Jungkook said as both of you stood outside your high school. You looked around, amused to see the place where you had spent so many years, full of love, happiness, sadness and even pain.
“Wait, do you wanna go to the rooftop?” Jungkook asked, a little excited. You nodded enthusiastically as both of you ran towards the back of the building, a huge staircase leading to the rooftop. That was one place in the whole school where you spent most of your time. It was either eating, skipping classes, escaping punishments or just hanging out.
“Ah these benches are still here.” Jungkook chuckled looking at a set of broken benches that he himself had broken during various fights.
The air around the cool rooftop felt the same, just like how it did five years back. It was honestly so refreshing.
“You know, Jungkook.... This place...it’s just...way too close to my heart.” You said, placing your hands on the compound as you gazed at the view of the busy roads from the rooftop. The breeze brushed through your face, making your lips feel chilly. Your eyelashes moved, a twitching feeling around your eyes.
Jungkook nodded, standing beside you. “This is where it all... started.” He said, letting out a deep sigh. A beautiful friendship was born here, right here on this rooftop. The ultimate trio of you, Jungkook and Jimin. There were so many memories, it was crazy.
“Ahh I wish Jimin was here too....” you said softly, hugging yourself, as you rubbed your arms. Jungkook pursed his lips looking at you. You looked towards Jungkook, noticing how close he was to you. You could feel his body heat radiating around you. He was looking at you, an ambiguous look in his eyes.
“Jungkook.... why are you making me feel this way...” you whispered, looking at him as you broke the silence. For some reason, the distance kept decreasing. Every moment felt notoriously long and painful, but in a good way.
“Y/n, you’re making me feel the same way too...” Jungkook whispered, his face only an inch apart now. His eyes habitually travelling towards your lips.
And before you knew it, it happened.
Your lips were on his, again.
It seemed wrong, but why did it feel right.
