TW; abuse, violence, death

You always enjoyed times like these with the knights.

Times when you were much younger- not a day over six, playing in the rain like a child.

At first, it would only be you dancing in the rain. The knights would never join something so childish and immature, but you didn't mind dancing alone.

Though they did have fun watching you twirl around in their cut-up and misshapen clothes. Even if they knew the mud would permanently stain your garments or get stuck in your hair, they didn't care. They never cared about stuff like that.

It took a few months on your new planet to convince them to dance in the rain with you.

To not just watch; but to join.

Shiloh was first. He'd seen you twirl and stumble and laugh so many times in the rain that it pained him physically when no one else would join.

So he did. Then Igo came in after- who was followed by Akira. Then the others, who slowly sprinkled in after seeing their brothers start to enjoy the rain as much as you did.

By the time they had all joined and danced with you in the rain, you felt as if you were a Ren yourself. Not yet a knight, but a part of the family nonetheless. Part of the only brotherhood you'd ever come to know and love.

Dancing with the Knights never struck you as weird or awkward. The Knights may have been big, and moved like solid bricks, but they were dancing nonetheless.

Igo could sway his hips like the wind. Saho could move his feet like a breakdancer. Lesco and Khuno could tango like professional latin performers.

And Akira could lift you higher than you'd ever expected.

You could basically feel the clouds in your hair when he'd lift you. You'd scream and cry from above while throwing fits of laughter.

He was unimaginably tall. Taller than Kylo. Taller than Shiloh.

Maybe even taller than a fathier- but you couldn't prove that without seeing one in person.

The bright smile spreading across Akira's face from ear to ear as he lifted you in the air always struck a chord in your heart. It was a face you knew you'd never forget, even after he'd died from old age.

You dreamed about that smile often.

Everything else would feel like a facade- but that smile was always so, so incredibly vivid. Even in a dream as deep as this one.

A strong grip on your shoulder ripped you away from that peaceful fantasy faster than you liked it to. You hadn't even gotten to the good part yet.

"Ryo, wake up!"

It was Akira. You could tell by the way his voice mixed with an ounce of worry and an ounce of anger that it was him.

Part of you wanted to swat his hand away and keep sleeping- maybe try to continue the dream you were having. But the other part of you knew something was wrong by the way he was gripping your shoulder, shaking it vigorously.
