"Finally, we can be done with this case," Gavin sighed, exiting off of all the files on his desk, and drinking the last of his now cold coffee.

"Gavin, that's your fourth cup of coffee today. You know that the recommended daily caffeine intake is-"

"Get off my dick, tin can," he set the empty mug down and stood up, grabbing his things. "You don't need to constantly analyze me."

"No I don't detective. But it's for your own good," he explained for the millionth time.

"I've been drinking this much coffee since I was born, and I'm fine."

Nines raised an eyebrow and looked him up and down.

"That's debatable."

"Shut up," Gavin walked towards the exit,  "You coming?"

Nines followed after him, making his way to the detective's car.

"Gavin, you should really let me drive. Its late, and you're sleep deprived," he explained, leaning against the car.

"Its my car. I'm driving. Get in."

Nines followed his instructions, as that was really all he could do. This week marked the end of the first month working with this detective. Nines had yet to deviate, as it's not something you can program. So at this point, he just had to follow instructions given to him by his superior. And his superior was Gavin.

"I have been instructed to conduct a short survey. Are you willing to participate?" Nines asked.

"No."

"Gavin," he said in a more stern tone. "Its really not an optional task."

"Fine. It'll help pass the time I guess," he sighed.

"Great. How had my presence impacted your work, and ability to solve cases?"

"I dunno. You've helped I guess. Things are a lot easier with you around...Don't let it go to your plastic head," he replied, rubbing his nose.

"Acknowledged. How has my presence impacted your personal life?"

Gavin rolled his eyes, tightening his grip on the wheel.

"Is this really a necessary question?"

"Yes," Nines' LED blinked yellow.

"You've been keeping me company. Its a little less lonely at my apartment. Whatever can we just skip to the next one?" Gavin asked, getting irritated.

"Okay. Last question. How can I adjust myself to help facilitate my integration?" Nines waited patiently, hands neatly folded in his lap.

"Just...Act more-human I guess. That robot voice is a little freaky," he lit a cigarette, taking a drag before exhaling towards the open window.

"Noted. I will keep that in mind."

"Also try wearing something different. You have a nice build. I'm sure you'd look nice in a turtleneck or something," he tried to say causally, though a red tint showed through his cheeks. "N-not in a gay way by the way," he stated, trying to compensate.

"Of course detective." Nines' mind lingered on Gavin's last comment. Out of curiosity, Nines asked a deeply personal question. "What is your preference, detective?"

"Preference? Of what, like coffee?"

"Men, detective," he clarified, causing his respective partner to fall into a coughing fit.

"What?" he said between struggled breaths. "I-I don't like men-"

"Really?" Nines tilted his head, genuinely confused. "Are you sure?"

"Yes I'm fucking sure," he calmed his breathing, finally returning to a normal state.

"I just figured that you might have, due to you're heightened temperature when in the presence of an attractive man. Much more than with women. Of course your temperature normally is higher than average and..." Nines suddenly trailed off and re-ran his calculations.

"You know, I've never acknowledged this thought before but...You're temperature is always heightened. Then again I'm only ever scanning you when you're in my presence. This may suggest that you find me...attractive?"

Gavin was frozen, his face now beat red.

"I don't-I don't know where you're getting that from. You must have um-" he gulped, "Messed up your numbers or something..." he added rubbing his neck.

"Hm. Perhaps. But I'm rarely wrong," he replied, eyeing Gavin.

"We're here," he parked the car, quickly getting out.

"Detective. This isn't your apartment building. This is a bar," he observed, stepping out of the vehicle.

"Thanks captain obvious."

"Gavin, why are we here?" he asked, scanning the area.

"To get drunk. I need to forget about everything that just happened," he opened the door. "You coming or not?"
