Magnus looked around him, taking in his surroundings. He was no longer in the graveyard he last remembered, instead, he found himself back in the small chamber off the side of the Great Hall. He was still in his robes from the third task, and he noticed a white sheet lay over his legs, crumpled a bit from falling off his top half when he sat up. He supposed the school didn't have a place to put dead bodies.
The portraits all around the room were whispering to one another, staring at Magnus in shock as he slowly stood. His head was spinning, and he stumbled over to lean against the fireplace, the stone cold and no fire going.
"Can... can one of you get Dumbledore please?" Magnus quietly spoke up to the portraits, looking around with half-lidded and tired eyes. "I think he'd be most interested to find me nice and peachy." He gave them a shaky smile, and after a moment Magnus saw one of the people in the paintings begin running through all the rest, heading towards Dumbledore's office.
He leaned his back against the stone of the fireplace and slowly slid down to sit beside it. It was cold, and he was so very in need of warmth. Feeling for his wand, he chuckled in relief as he found it tucked away in a pocket. "Thanks Merlin," he grumbled, half-heartedly pointing it over his shoulder and into the fireplace. A moment later a fire roared up, and he purred a little bit at the warmth that rolled over him.
Time passed, and he wasn't sure how much time, but finally the door across the room opened. Dumbledore rushed in, followed by Professor McGonagall and Madam Pomfrey. "You're alive!" Magnus grinned at the surprise on all their faces, his eyes closing as he hummed softly.
"I'm alive~" His voice was a little sing-song, and he chuckled, pushing himself to his feet. "Quite the achievement I say, getting over death." Magnus patted his robes a bit, smoothing them out and realizing just how filthy he was. His head had stopped spinning so bad, and the pain that had been shooting through his body had dulled. "It's quite the story actually, I think you might like it. Before that though, I don't suppose I can get something to eat?"
Magnus found himself in the hospital wing an hour later. Against the well warnings from Pomfrey and McGonagall, Dumbledore had kept them in the small side chamber while Magnus told his story. A house elf, the very familiar Lipo, had brought him a large plate of food at Dumbledore's beckoning, and Magnus was stuffed to the breaking point by the time he was finished spewing his story.
Apparently, Magnus hadn't actually been dead for long, only a few hours. It was still nighttime as Dumbledore walked with him into the hospital wing, careful to not wake any of those who had stayed and fallen asleep around Harry's bed. Pomfrey had come back to the hospital wing early, and once Magnus was up in a bed and under the covers, she hurried over with a potion.
"Drink this, its a Potion of Dreamless sleep. It will help you rest-"
"No... No I think I'll just sleep on my own." Magnus said, staring at the potion before smiling up at her. "I think dreams might be helpful for me right now."
She looked hesitant, as though she wanted to argue, but let out a little huff before going back to her office. "Now, Magnus." He looked up at Dumbledore, "you should be careful who you speak to about what's happened. We will tell everyone the good news in the morning, but keep that in mind. Sleep well."
The headmaster didn't say anything else before he turned and left the hospital wing. Silence fell, and Magnus looked around with a sigh. The only things he heard were the soft breathing of the others in the hospital wind. Quietly, he shifted down a bit to lay comfortably in the bed, and let himself fall asleep.
He did not dream, at least he didn't remember any. The next thing he knew after falling asleep were the sounds of shouting in the hospital wing. His head pounded as the voices got louder, but he couldn't make out words as he came too. Lifting his head, Magnus finally opened his eyes. It was still night, the light outside the windows was dim and all he wanted was to sleep again.
