It's the middle of the night and I'm awake. I can't sleep. It's because of the flashbacks. I get up to go to the bathroom but I hear quiet crying. I follow the sound and it leads me to the back of the bus on the couches. Danie is laying there crying.
"What's wrong?" I ask pulling my sleeves all the way down over my hands. He picks up his head and looks at me with his sad blue eyes flooding with tears. He lifts up The Fault in Our Stars book that I lost.
"I know the feeling." I sit down next to him. I really don't want to touch or be near any boy but I remember the feeling. I dig my fingers into my hands, take a deep breath, try to stop my thoughts and I put my arms around him like a hug. He cries into my arm and I focus on not freaking out.
"Why did it have to happen? They were perfect for each other."
"I know."
"He didn't get to write the book for her."
We talked about the book and soon enough he stopped crying.
"I'm sorry I took your book." He says sitting up. were now sitting across from each other on the same couch.
"It's ok, it's Jonah's book." I say. "Why did you read it?"
"Well you read it so I thought I should give it a try."
"You saw me crying my eyes out and thought ge I should read that."
"Well when you think about it it sounds dumb."
We spent the next while talking about the book. It was really fun. Then we part ways to go to sleep. I toss and turn but eventually darkness overtakes me.
