When they arrived in Missouri a couple hours later, they found a motel about a mile away from the town that was infected. Getting themselves situated, Lily set her bag down on one of the beds with a heavy sigh.

"You alright?" Dean asked.
She gave a small nod. "Yeah..I'm fine." Walking over to the window, she shuddered. "It's so bad already..."

"What is?" Jackie asked.
"The virus..." She turned her worried gaze to them. "It's already taken over half the town. I'd say another day or two and this town is toast."

"She's not wrong." Cass said, appearing from nowhere, startling everyone. "And here I thought we had more time.."

"Well, let's start figuring out what it is now." Sam said, opening his laptop.

"Okay, well while you do that, maybe Cass and I should go back there, see if there's anymore things we can pick up." Lily suggested.
Cass shook his head. "What I saw is enough to only know that it's ancient."

"It's a start." Dean said, going through his dads journal.

Lily turned to face Cass. "Remind me what the victims looked like when you saw them."

"Well, they were clearly too far gone." Cass said. "And as they were dying, they choked on their own blood, and their veins were black."
She suddenly had that look on her face as if something clicked, dragging him out into the hallway. Stopping outside the door, her grip was firm on his arm. "Remember that plague that swept the town I lived in all those years ago?"

Cass tilted his head. "Kind of..why?"

"What if this is part of it somehow?" Lily asked. "Because when you said they had black veins..that's exactly how they died back then, but the doctors back then couldn't figure out what caused it." She took a half step closer. "But you did."

He looked baffled before his eyes widened. "No..it can't be that..there's no way."

"Anything's possible nowadays." She said. "So you think it could be connected to that?"
Sighing, he gave a small nod as she let go of him. "It's possible, yes..but I just don't understand how. They've been locked up for years.."

"I don't know either, but...it's a start." She said, the two of them going back by the others.

"What was all that about?" Sam asked.

"We think we might have an idea as to what started this." Cass said.

"Okay, you wanna elaborate?" Dean asked.
Filling them in on what they discussed, the group looked confused. "So...you think some ancient god started all this??" Jackie asked. "What was their name again?"

"Amara." Cass said. "Or 'the darkness' if you prefer..she's highly powerful, and extremely dangerous. We had her locked away for centuries before she somehow escaped, infecting civilians back in Lily's time. I guess she's not done yet.."

"So how do we stop her?" Dean asked.

Cass took a couple seconds to speak. "Well..one way would be to lock her up again, the spell to do so basically taking everything out of me. Or..another way that has been able to slow her down at least, is for a human to wield the power of holy fire and burn her to the ground."

"I don't think any of us have that power." Dean sassed. "So I guess we're gonna have to go with the locking her up plan."
Cass seemed reluctant, but gave a small nod. "Of course."

"Alright..let's get ready to go into the town." Sam said.

As they prepared themselves, Lily said she forgot something in her car, and stepped outside. Her shoulders tensed up after grabbing the container of blood she needed. Taking out something from her back pocket, if she had a heartbeat, it would be racing a million miles an hour. Swallowing hard, she tossed it in the nearest trash can before going back inside.
