Chapter 32- finale

"He hates me." Caroline held the pillow over her face as her words came out muffled against the soft cotton.

"Id say that's for the best, now can we please get back to the task at hand." A very annoyed Nadia said, grabbing the pillow and placing a map on her chest, "This is the list of every place she's gone, there's a pattern."

Caroline looked irked as she looked at the printer paper and pink sharpie, "classy colors."

Nadia gave the blonde a glare and went back to pointing out the similarities, "she always goes to the place Klaus just left, always a few years behind. Her trick is following him, keeping him close."

"She May be a stone-cold bitch but she's smart," Caroline said, knowing it would get a rise out of the brunette

"Just because I need you alive for the time being doesn't mean I need you unharmed," Nadia growled

Nadia and Caroline had been secretly scheming about finding her mother for 2 weeks, minimum progress being made. So far no one seemed concerned with tracking down Nadia, but both knew they would be eventually and so they needed to work quickly. Caroline did genuinely feel bad for the girl and even if she hated Katherine, Nadia wasn't as bad. And Caroline knew what it was like to lose a parent, and though Caroline would never forgive Nadia, she also understood her reason, her pain. The blonde also understood what yearning for a mother's affection was like. Though the main reason was to help Nadia it didn't hurt that all the detective work made caroline feel badass and gave a distraction from her predicament with Klaus.

"So where would the last place she was?"

"New Orleans, we are heading there tomorrow," Nadia said it more as a statement instead of asking. Sighing caroline nodded.

"Couldn't even have given me the time I think of an excuse! I'm an awful liar!" Caroline spoke exasperated, pouting her lips at Nadia's uncaring face.

"Say you need a break from this stupid town. God knows I do."

Groaning caroline nodded, "I'll be ready by tomorrow."

Caroline looked around sadly as she wrote her note.

Hi mom,

I'm sorry for the short notice but I have decided I'm taking a break from Mystic falls. I've realized this small town isn't what I want. I'm only taking a short vacation and I should be back before spring break ends. I love all of you and will keep in touch. (Please let my friends know! XOXO"

Lovingly,
Caroline

The blonde placed the letter on the counter of the kitchen and walked out the door with a duffle bag. She felt her eyes burn with tears as she left her house, left her mom. She felt awful for not telling her in person but caroline felt if she did she'd break into tears. And she just hoped her mom told the Salvatore's and her other friends.

Walking into the light morning air caroline made a quick and rash decision. Turning her car in the direction of the Mikaelson Manor caroline inhaled sharply

Opening the door without a second thought Caroline used her speed to write something on a pad of paper

Dear Nik,

Though you probably know how much this sucks to admit, you are right. This small town life isn't enough for me. So I'm taking a vacation, I'm going to New Orleans. I truly do care about you but I need some space, and I think you do to. I'm done denying my feelings for you and though I wish I didn't feel like this, I do. So even though I'm leaving I will be back, and I hope you'll be waiting.

P.S I know you're smirking about you being right and I just wanna say wipe that smirk right off. >:(

Love (and hate sometimes),
caroline

And with that, she went back to her car and drove back into the forest, it was time to embark on a new journey.

It was time for her to live.
