*Lucia's POV*
I looked around at my surroundings and took in the chaos that had clearly just taken place. The road was dark and empty apart from four vehicles. A red sedan was flipped upside down in the grass section between the two directions people travelled. A black SUV had hit the median dead and the front of the car split in the middle. An 18-wheeler semi truck was on its side with smoke coming out of the engine. And lastly, a familiar looking purple dodge caravan had swerved off and hit a light pole. From the last car, a loud song could be heard playing through its speakers. No one was around to hear it play.
Knowing what I was about to see, I tried to stop myself from walking towards the purple caravan, but my body had another idea. I took slow steps in the direction of the vehicle with a heavy heart.
"They built you a temple and locked you away"
Blood covered the shattered driver's side of the windshield. There was so much blood that looking into the window would be pointless. The thick liquid dripped down agonizingly slowly. I opened the door and took a quick look inside. Staring back at me from my father's lap was deep blue eyes that resembled both mine and my sisters. My dad's decapitated head sat against his legs, leaning back on the steering wheel. The head looked at me with its eyes wide and mouth opened in fear.
"But they never told you the price that you'd pay for the things that you might have done."
I shut the door and began walking to the front of the vehicle. I felt sad, but expressing my sadness wasn't an option here. Even if I wanted to, the tears just wouldn't come. The passenger side of the windshield was gone; the edges of the glass were covered in blood. The front of the van had caved in from the impact of the light pole. Something flew out of this window. Unwillingly, my body turned to the left slightly and my eyes strained to see something in the distance.
A lump could be seen fifty feet away laying on the cold concrete ground. My feet shuffled towards what was left of my mother's body. Her pale legs with her dark green heels were what I first noticed. Then I saw the scrapes and blood that surrounded her. My eyes trailed up her pale body. The black dress that she had been wearing was torn all over and hiding the blood that I'm sure caked the front side of her.
When my gaze got to her head, I could barely even control the shaking that had taken over my body. The force of being thrown out of the windshield could be clearly seen on her face; or at least where it should have been. I could see a couple of teeth hidden under a blanket of blood. Her neck was bent at an odd angle and was undeniably broken. The rest of her face just looked like a pile of mush. There were no distinct features anymore besides the few teeth still holding on.
I dropped to my knees and felt nothing but absolute numbness. The song in the background coming from the car my father's head was laying in seemed to be getting louder.
"Only the good die young"
That line kept repeating in my head, getting louder and louder each time. The world around me started to spin as I tried to regain my breathing. I felt hands wrap around my body, pulling at every inch of my skin. Ripping at my ribs and stretching my face. I felt like I was being suffocated by the sadness that overwhelmed my body and took over my thoughts.
A voice spoke to me through the grabbing hands.
"This is your fault. We weren't going to do anything this year for our anniversary. You booked everything. You paid for it. You sent us away to our deaths. Is this what you wanted? We thought you cared about us. You need to feel the pain we felt."
The hands gripped harder. The cold fingers touched every part of my body. There was no point in fighting them, I knew I had no chance at winning.
