Peter's POV

When I arrived at school I went straight to my locker.

"Peter! Guess what!?" Ned said as he came up behind me.

"What's up?" I said confused when I turned around to see a very excited Ned.

"The new girl's coming today." Ned said with a big smile.

"...okay..."

"Come on Peter. Why aren't you more excited about this?" Ned asked.

"Because it's just a new girl and besides we'll probably find a way to embarrass ourselves anyway. So I'm not getting my hopes up." I said shutting my locker and walking away as Ned followed.

"That's true. But who knows maybe she'll like that." Ned fantasized.

"Maybe." I said. The bell rang a few minutes later. Me and Ned went to our homeroom/chemistry class.

"Everyone please take your seats I will begin attendance shortly." Mr. Reycold said. A few seconds later the classroom door opened. There stood Ms. Mayden and a girl. The girl wore a black cropped tank top, with jean shorts, a white see through throw over, a necklace that hung down to where her shirt ended, and silver wedding rings on her left hand.

"Everyone?" Mr. Reycold said. The entire class was now looking at the new girl and whispering. "Class this is our new student y/n." The whispers continued.

"It's actually really good that you are joining us today because we are starting a new project and we were one person short." Mr. Reycold explained.

"Happy to be of use." Y/n said.

"Good attitude. I like that. Well, I'm gonna partner you up with Peter. Peter can you please raise your hand." Mr. Reycold asked.

"Me?!" I asked myself. I didn't want to be yelled at so I raised my hand and took a big gulp when she started to walk towards me.

"That's it I'm gonna nerd out. She's gonna think I'm weird. She's not gonna like me. I mean she's so pretty, how could she?" I thought as she walked over. When y/n sat down we both looked at each other and smiled awkwardly. I didn't know what to say nor if I should speak at all.

Mr. Reycold and Ms. Mayden talked for a few seconds both with sad faces. I wondered what made their facial expressions change so quickly.

Y/n's POV

The two teachers stood there for a few seconds talking their facial expressions changed from happy to sad very quickly. I knew that Ms. Mayden was telling my new teacher the story of why I had to "switch schools." The story of what happened was true but the part about me going into the foster system was only half true. I did have a foster family but I ran away and hid. If people had found out about my old Groot or Gigi or my secret, my life would be over.

"Alright class. You and your partner must pick one out of these three activities to do over the next few days. Yes, two or more groups may be doing the same projects, but in the end you all get graded differently so it does not matter." Mr. Reycold said as he passed out the papers. Each person got a separate work sheet so they could write their work separately if they wanted.

I read in my head:

1.Create a Crystal and study the process.
2. Make a container that can keep things from melting.
3. Create a separating solution.

"They're all easy enough. So you can pick." I said to Peter.

"...Ugh...o-okay." Peter stuttered. I giggled softly so he didn't hear, I found it cute when a guy was caught off guard or stuttered. "Well, everyone is probably going to go for the Crystal because it's easy. And the separation solution because we've already done that. So maybe we can make the container."

"Mini sized freezer. Got it." I joked. We both slightly laughed at my comparison. "I've done this before so I already know what to do."

Peter looked surprised. "Did you do this at your last school?" He asked curiously.

"No. I'm just..." I stopped I didn't want to be known as a loser on my first day. I sighed, "Not exactly." I wanted to tell him I did it because I'm a giant nerd and did it on my own time for fun. I just couldn't bring myself to say it not after the fact that I might already be crushing on him.

I was surprised. "Did you do this at your last school?" I asked curiously.

"No. I'm just..." she stopped. "Not exactly." She continued. She looked like she wanted to say something else but just couldn't. I didn't know what to say after that, she kinda just played with her paper a little bit.

"Okay class the bell is about to ring so we will continue this tomorrow." Mr. Reycold said. Everyone started to pack up.

"Hey. Do you wanna come to my house tomorrow after school to continue the project?" I asked. Y/n's face lit up a little bit.

"I have to run it over with...my foster...uncle first. But if he says yes I would love to." She said. Her voice kind of trailed off like she was thinking when she said foster uncle.

"Foster uncle? What's that?" I said just as the bell rang.

"Well, the guy I'm staying with is...well saying he's my foster father is just kind of weird. He's more like an uncle." Y/n said as she got up.
