Our winter was still fierce and cold even as we started heading into the beginning of January. The Snowfall was still very thick but not as frequent, the temperature was still very cold but I had grown used to it. As far as I was aware no one knew about me meeting with Alfie Solomons, I was still in the dark as to why on earth he wanted a photograph of the two of us but as long as I wasn't in debt anymore I didn't mind.
"Have you spoke to Daniel since you've returned?" Michael asked as we walked.
I shook my head. "No, I haven't," I told him sadly.
"Why not?" He asked. "I thought you were friends?"
I looked at my feet as I walked. "I've tried calling and his staff tell me the same thing... Daniel is not ready to speak to anyone. More like he isn't ready to speak to me."
"Why's that?" He asked.
"The Mexican we brought back with us," I began then sighed. "He's Daniel's real Father"
"Really?" Michael asked in surprise. "Are you sure?"
I shrugged. "I wasn't sure but since Daniel won't answer my calling I'm guessing I was right," I explained. "I kind of wish I wasn't smart and didn't pay attention to things."
"I'm sure he isn't avoiding you because of that," He told me. "You know full well its a big deal when you meet a family member who you didn't know existed," He explained.
Maybe Michael had a point but it still pained me knowing that Daniel didn't want to speak to me even after what we had been through. I suppose he did need some time and space to get his head around what has happened. I just wished Daniel would talk to me so we could work things out and be friends again.
"You know you're actually great company," Michael told me. "You're much more interesting to talk to."
I couldn't help but laugh. "It's because we are more intellectual," I stated with a smile.
"And that is a big word a few family members can't spell," Michael laughed.
I had to admit, I did enjoy spending time with Michael because he was brought up reading books, going to school and he was rather clever so we always had something to talk about but I mainly enjoyed listening to Michael moan about John and Arthur. Michael was very different to my Uncles which was something I was glad about. I could gain knowledge from him but I gained fighting skills from John and Arthur, the main thing was that I knew who I could go to depending on the situation, for example... School work I would go to Michael and taking the eyes out of a teenager I would go to my Uncles.
"Do you know all of my Dad's plan?" I asked curiously.
Michael shook his head. "I don't think anyone knows all of it," He explained.
I smiled. "So you know some of it," I stated.
He frowned at me. "I didn't say that," He told me.
I stood in front of Michael looking up at him. "Yes you did dear cousin," I stated. "You said you don't think anyone knows all of it therefore you know something or unless you would have said you don't think anyone knows what he's planning."
Michael looked at me with wide eyes. "Has anyone ever told you that you are too clever for your own good?" He asked.
I smiled. "Plenty of times!" I said proudly.
Yes I was almost certain my intelligence was going to get me in a lot of trouble one day but this was fine. I learned that little trick from my Father; He is secretly very proud of my skills... Sometimes.
