1 year later
Amina was now sat in her cozy one bedroom apartment. A lot had happened for her ever since that day. The divorce process was difficult and painful but it was over. That signature signed off that life. That life that she had left behind to move on.
When she walked out of that courthouse she had promised herself that it was about her from then on.
She found a job as a waitress at a cute little cafe that was further into Bakersfield. Amina enjoyed the ambiance and the energy of the people.
That was when she started her blog. She simply started writing to pass her time and help numb the pain from her heartache. To her surprise her blog blew up and earned her a good amount of dedicated supporters.
Her blog became her source of revenue. Not only did it help pay her bills but it was also cathartic. It helped her to alleviate her pain and sorrow.
Her and Janis were still good friends. Janis was sad to see her best friend move to a new place a few months ago but was also glad that she was able to get back up on her feet.
There was not a day that went by without Amina thinking of Henry and his new family. It brought tears to her sunken eyes but with each tear came healing, each tear brought about growth and just like a flower she was able to bloom.
Aaliyah came to visit Amina two months ago when she was moving out and they still maintained a good bond.
As for Henry, she fought the urge to call him almost every day. At first the temptation would only increase by the passing days but slowly she was able to resist. The vice in her that was aching for more pain and trauma was quelled.
She knew that when she signed that paper in the courtroom she had to leave everything behind. At the time when they got married they did not sign a prenup because they thought their love was everlasting. Love truly blinds.
Amina did not take a single penny from him because she wanted to start over. She wanted to walk into her new life without any bags from her previous life because that wouldn't be a rebirth would it? She didn't care that the bag could be money, she wanted nothing to do with it. From then on, she would be self-reliant.
The support from her two doting friends was all Amina needed to strive towards greatness. The voice inside of her screaming for attenuation grew louder and eventually muffled the voice screaming for melancholy.
Her new life was just starting and although Amina felt that the world didn't owe her anything she was still sanguine about what her new life would bring.
She slowly began to find solace in her solitude. She started going out more and rediscovered the beauty and simplicity of life. Her smile was slowly growing wider as time passed. Time once again brought them together, broke them apart and finally put her together.
Her eyes slowly started gaining the spark she once possessed. She was finally smiling. She was finally living, not making it from day to day but she was learning and thriving.
Her faith in herself and God grew stronger. She found comfort in him and felt listened to when she prayed. Divine intervention, that was what it was. God entered her life and filled the cracks that Henry made. She was still on her religious path, but there was no doubt in her mind. There just had to be a divine being who orchestrated this absurd yet beautiful piece called life.
