Alas, class, you will begin working as teams of composers and idols and face the challenges we have set before you." The camp director declared, earning a cheer from the half of the original musicians who registered and actually passed the music theory exam. "Your first task is to create a song, whether it is a duet or an individual idol depends on the number of idols in the team. Overall, each unit will create one song. The composer must finish the song by the end of this week, and each team will perform their song at the festival being held next week."
Finally, their musical studies would become serious. Yui felt excited and proud to be able to work with both Reiji and Otoya on this assignment, but she was also slightly nervous because of the fact that they weren't getting along as they originally did when the girl first met Otoya.
An idol raised her hand near the front of the classroom; it was the same girl that Yui had run into in the halls, and the same one that spited her because she was teammates with Otoya. Her luscious auburn hair was recognizable anywhere.
"Excuse me, but isn't it not really fair that idols with as much achievements as Ittoki and Kotobuki have to work with someone who's not as accomplished as them?" She asked.
With a slight pinch of pain, Yui closed her fist irritably. The camp director opened his mouth to say something, but was interrupted by the sound of chairs crashing on the floor.
Both Otoya and Reiji stood, hands angrily slammed on their desks as they each raised their voice. "You have no right to say such things!" The exclaimed in unison, and then met each other's determined gazes with surprise.
"From what I can tell Yui is the best possible composer for our team." Otoya was the first to continue. "Just look at the exam scores. She is the single person that has a perfect score."
"You aren't exactly the kind of person who should be determining who we work with anyway." Reiji chimed, his typical smile wiped from his face.
The auburn-haired girl shrunk in her seat as Yui's silver orbs widened with surprise and hope that these two did believe in her.
"Please, Mr. Ittoki and Mr. Kotobuki, take your seats." The camp director sighed. "But Ms. Himuro, it is entirely fair, considering the facts that they just stated for us. Also, both Mr. Ittoki and Mr. Kotobuki requested her in their registration." He told the female idol, who went by the name Himuro.
"Now, get to work on your songs immediately." The director instructed, dismissing the class as nearly every musician fell completely silent.
Yui rushed from the room, followed by Otoya and Reiji. Startled by their sudden outburst, everyone else groggily rose to their feet and left the room after.
"Yui!" The familiar, kind voice of Otoya called out to her. She turned to meet his worried red eyes and she could feel her heart become chilled.
"You didn't need to stick up for me..." She commented. "I can handle myself."
"But, Yu-" He began, but the brunette quieted him before he could continue.
Realizing that she had forgotten her bag, she began to force her way through the crowd of other musicians that all seemed to glare at her. "I left my bag. I'll be back soon." She informed him just before disappearing in the mass of people.
Luckily, it was right where she had left it, hanging from her lonesome wooden chair. But of course, others wouldn't allow her to just leave quietly.
"Akimoto." Yui could recognize that harsh, cold voice. It belonged to the idol Himuro, the same girl that seemed to thoroughly loathe her. "In what twisted way have you managed to seduce both my Ittoki and the famous Kotobuki?" Her low voice was both venomous and confident as a few of her friends were by her side.
"How dare you, Akimoto." One of the other girls said as another commented, "She probably threatened them with that horrible glare of hers."
The brunette bit her lip, hiding her pained silver gaze behind the glare of her thin glasses.
"I wonder what they will think of you after your face turns black and blue. Hmm?" Himuro threatened, grasping onto Yui's hair and yanking her head up.
This was how school worked, even considering that this was a winter camp. Otoya and Reiji were the popular boys; the boys that every girl wanted to call their own. And when someone had some kind of opportunity to be close to them, the girls were overcome with jealousy and even hatred.
But Yui would not allow for what the girls had planned. She wedged the heel of her shoe into Himuro's toe, causing her to jump back with a yelp.
"To stoup so low as to try to beat someone due to, what, jealousy...?" The bespectacled girl spat with a chuckle. "You tease me, Himuro, but I can imagine you having some kind of weird collection of Otoya items. You probably sleep with a body pillow with his image on it every night."
Himuro's blue eyes widened with shock and even a hint of fear.
"And for all of you to follow her like obedient dogs..." Yui shook her head disapprovingly. "No, you're worse than that. You've sunk to the same level as her. And maybe, instead of focusing all of your attention on me, you should try to make a decent song."
Satisfied, Yui walked through the paralyzed group of girls, grabbing her bag and returning to where she said she would meet Otoya.
********
It had been a while since Yui said she would get her bag, and Otoya was beginning to grow worried. So, he hurried to the classroom in hopes of finding her.
Just a few steps from the door, he was suddenly pulled to the side. "She'll be fine." Reiji assured. "This is one of the sides of Yui that you do not know." Quietly, he pulled Otoya to one of the classroom windows where they peered through the glass, hoping not to be seen by the girls inside.
He watched as the auburn-haired idol roughly tugged on Yui's chocolate-colored hair. But what astonished him more was how the girl handled the group attacking her.
With just her words, the usually quiet composer silenced each of the bullies.
Yet, he rushed to make himself appear as though he had not been watching the entire scene as Yui strolled from the room. "Oh, you guys don't have anything to worry about..." She stated nonchalantly.
"Let's get to work on the song." The girl suggested as she ventured down the hallway to find the music room they were instructed to use. "You two seem to have a reputation to uphold."
