i snickered to my coworker as her face turned a bright red.

"HE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND! i just met him last night!" she exclaimed as i quickly raised my hand up in surrender.

"okay! okay. so. hot guy at the club.. what else?" i questioned. i leaned against the counter as she explained how he had just made her feel like an absolute queen. i chuckled before simply saying "simp." only to get smacked upside the head by alex, my coworker. we were both extremely close since we were both from (homeland) and moved here for similar reasons so we felt more like sisters than two people stuck at work. i pouted as i rubbed the spot that had been slapped as she huffed and rolled her eyes.

"thank the lord today has been a slow day.. i did not feel like working today. almost called in sick." she said as she gripped her head in irritation.

"it's you're fault for getting absolutely hammered.. even had me call for an uber when you HAD your phone on you. did you ever manage to find it?" i questioned with a laugh at how much of a lightweight my friend was. she narrowed her eyes and was about to reply when a little bell rang indicating people are walking in. i immediately shot up and turned to the door.

it was a group of three guys and two girls all around my age that were all laughing and smiling together. i let out a small soft sigh before plastering a large grin and jogging up towards the register. they all made their way towards the counter with goofy smiles and i opened my mouth to speak only to get cut off by one of the two girls.

"hi, yes, i'd like a salted caramel frap. TONS of whip cream on that too!" she exclaimed. her voice was ear drum piercing and immediately caused me to stifle some irritation and keep up my friendly look. i wrote that down on a small notepad before nodding and looking to the other girl.

"and what would you like miss?" i questioned. she glanced at the menu before looking back and me and shrugging.

"just the same thing as her." she said. even though she spoke less then the other, her voice had managed to irritate me even more. i bit my tongue in attempt to stop my typical snarky comments that had caused me to lose my past job and almost lose this one as well. i hummed in response and looked at the first guy.

"ah uhm.. just a regular coffee with some sugar in it for me." he said while his eyes drifted from my eyes to my chest. i scrunched up my nose before sighing. i attempted to shake it off as i turned to the next who was already staring at my chest with some lust in his eyes. he made no attempt to make it not obvious. so i cleared my throat and asked what he would like. he blinked a couple times before responding with

"oh! uh.. can i have one of those chocolate chip muffins? and also a vanilla frap." i was completely done with this group at this point as i stared with passive aggression radiating off of my body. i blinked a couple times before turning to the last guy who was smiling gently as he maintained eye contact. unlike the other two, he ALREADY seemed more polite which caused me to study him more.. he had lighter dyed hair on top with his assumingely natural dark hair peaking through on the sides of his head. his jawline was *italian kiss* SHARP. he was tall with an athletic built.. basically, an attractive guy. i smiled back before placing my pencil on my notepad indicating i was ready to take his order.

"i'd just like a regular columbian coffee.. black. please and thank you." he said still keeping eye contact. although he was a lot nicer than the others, there was something about his eyes that had chills running up and down my spine. his bags added to the certain darkness i spotted, but i quickly nodded and jotted down his order so i didn't seem weird. i was about to ask if they wanted their orders for here to go before this mystery man leaned on the counter causing my breath to hitch. i looked back up at him with a questioning gaze as he smiled.

"hey.. what're you doing after here?" he asked. i chuckled before saying

"going straight home. now. are you all paying separately? and is this for here or to go?" i questioned. the girls were fuming at this point which left me confused but everyone got everything paid for and that's that. i was about to start getting ready to leave for the day when alex ran up behind me giving me a mini heart attack. i turned to face her with a confused and scared look as she gave me a devilish grin.

"he was cute.." she started.

"ABSOLUTELY THE F-" i stopped when i realized the group was still here and they all turned to look at me. "FFFFFFuck not. i am not going to be reckless. i'm not you. besides, i have to be home by seven thirty." i continued in a mumble out of embarrassment, but it was loud enough for her to hear. oh and also, his eyes make me think he's a fucking murderer or something.. i added mentally. she sighed before groaning and slapping both of her hand onto each of my shoulders and raising an eyebrow.

"(y/n)... bitch... for as long as i've known you, you've never dated." (lmao my entire family to me-) she said. i rolled my eyes before smacking her hands away.

"not gonna happen." i responded as i took my apron off and hung in on the wall. i went to the back room to grab my hoodie and quickly put it on over my white button up before grabbing my backpack from school and slinging it over one arm. i checked myself in the mirror and then quickly walked out again. "cover me so i can leave early?" i asked with puppy dog eyes. she groaned once more before storming off towards the counter. "thank you! love youuu!" i said in a sing songy voice before walking out the door.

i only got a grumble from her in response, but i know she loves me too. i felt like there were eyes on me every second of the way out, but pushed it away thinking if anything, it was one of those two boys. i shivered at the thought but broke out into a cold sweat at the thought of that hot mystery man's eyes. something about them just.. it was just off. you know the feeling.. where it's like in the pit of your stomach. i shook the thoughts away as i slowly approached my home. i shoved my hand into my pocket and grabbed my phone to check the time.. seven seventeen pm. i smiled softly.

i can just take a break outside.. just for a bit. i thought to myself. i definitely needed it. i sat on the floor of our run down porch that fit with the aesthetic of a run down and old house. it was definitely old and uncared for, but it was.... well it was something over my head. i didn't exactly have the money for much anyways. i closed my eyes before softly sighing and hearing the shouts of an older male inside the home followed by the shouts of an older woman also inside the home.

i opened my eyes once again and lowered them to the ground before checking the time again. seven twenty five. i took a deep breath before slowly getting up and softly walking towards the door and fumbling around my pockets for my keys. i snatched them out and stuffed the house key into the keyhole and unlocked it. i slowly opened the creaking door only for the shouts to stop.

i closed the door behind me and locked it as i heard footsteps approach me from behind. as i was putting my keys back into my pocket i had felt an arm slither around my waist and pull me backwards. i was embraced by the smell of alcohol and cigarettes dancing around in the air to form a disgusting mix that i had grown used to. i stood perfectly still as i felt myself drain of all emotion.

"welcome back honey." said a deep, raspy voice. i stayed quiet as the arm around my waist slowly rose up to my chest and gave a tight squeeze. my eyebrows knitted and my fists clenched, but i already knew what would happen if i tried anything. the man i was raised to call father soon let go and instead placed both his hands on my waist. my eyes squeezed shut as he pressed his pelvis onto my lower back and i felt something stiffen. i shivered in disgust before looking in the ground with despair written all over my face.

empty tears fell one by one as i looked down at the ground and up to the right where i saw my mother standing in the kitchen. she hated the situation but didn't dare speak. i closed my eyes, imagining i was someplace else. someplace where i had a loyal man that only had eyes for me, cared for me, and did everything it takes to make sure we stayed by each other's side. somewhere far, far from here where he could protect me from all harm.

m m m m m now THAT is a serious case of boring and slow beginnings. uhm. so uh. careful what you wish for bitch
