( CHAPTER ELEVEN )
They were going to use the Byers' shed as a hideout so that Will doesn't know where he was, so the Mind Flayer couldn't find them while they eventually get to talk to Will.
They cleared out everything in the shed, dumping it aside. They used black sheets to cover the entire insides. Nancy stands beside Steve, unwrapping the duck tap and Steve is stapling the black sheets to the wood.
Nancy looked over at Steve awkwardly, they were both in a weird relationship. "Hey," she begins, trying to make her voice strong. "What you did, um, helping the kids... That was... Really cool."
"Yeah," Steve answered, glancing away from her. "Those little shits are real trouble, you know?" He steps up on the mini ladder.
"Believe me, I know." Nancy chuckled. Steve keeps working and Nancy glances back at Steve guilty. "So, you Hailey have gotten pretty close."
"Yeah," Steve begins again. "So have you and Jonathan." That made Nancy feel even worse than she already does.
Nancy pressed her lips together and continued to work, the guilt eating her up inside.
In the backyard, Hailey helped Joyce and Jonathan take the clothes from the line. "You sure this is going to work?" Jonathan questioned his mother, opposite him.
"He knew who I was," Joyce looked at her son. "He's still in there. It's gonna work. It has to." Jonathan gives her an uncertain look and cuts one of the lines. They were gonna use those lines to tie Will to the chair that will be in that shed.
They continued to get the shed together. Everyone does their part, inside the shed; Steve, Nancy, Hailey, and the kid's duck tap the walls with cardboard, foil, newspaper, and other materials to try and make this place spontaneous for Will.
A bright light beams over them. Hailey puts down a chair in next to a pole and another chair beside opposite it for the integration.
They all departed once they were finished. People like Joyce, Hopper, Jonathan, and Mike stayed with Will where they were all in the shed.
Hailey stares out he kitchen window anxiously, the bright lights beaming from the shed. She puts a hand through her ponytail, playing with the ends nervously.
Hailey smiled at Nancy when she turned around, Nancy was standing there with her arms crossed, leaning against the wall in the kitchen. Nancy doesn't express anything back, she simply stares off.
Hailey looked down and walked out of the kitchen, her eyes briefly looked to Lucas and Max who were sitting in the hall, then she walked into the lounge, she jumped back when Steve takes practice swings of the bat, almost hitting her. "Holy shit, I'm sorry," Steve rushed out, lowering his bat.
Hailey chuckled. "It's fine, Steve. Think if of it as payback when I almost took you out with it last year."
A smile found its way to Steve's face, remembering that moment. Nancy looked around the corner carefully, watching her boyfriend and best friend interact with each other. She knew they both had feelings for each other, she wanted to be mad. But she couldn't.
I have to break up with him so he can be with the person he truly loves, Nancy thinks to herself, her heart dropping a little. She watched them embraced each other tightly, her gaze lowers to the ground and she goes back to her position before.
"I think you should get some rest," Steve tells her gently. He's noticed the bags that grew recently under the eyes, he figured she hasn't slept for at least a few days.
Hailey looked up, she was pressed up against Steve who looks down at her, so much love and worry-filled in his eyes. "I'm fine, Steve."
"You're not," he creases a thumb under her right eye, gazing at her. It wasn't until the lights flickering above them throughout the house was what brought them back to reality.
