( CHAPTER SEVEN )

Steve headlights shine in the dark as they drove along a dark road with Hailey in the front, Dustin in the middle seat in the back.

"Wait a sec." Steve had spoken after a minute of silences, thinking through what they had just told him. "How big?"

"First it was like that," Dustin explained, using his two fingers to make it seem small then brings both of his hands to about a dog-sized like-sized. "Then he's like this."

"I swear to God, man," Steve grumbled under his breath. "It's just some little lizard, okay?"

"It's not a lizard, Steve," Hailey tells him, almost sounding like a plead. Steve looks over at her, for a few moments, he admired her looks. Her hair was down and naturally brown and straight. It was the longest hair he'd seen. It shined under the moonlight.

"How do you know?" He asked carefully, moving his gaze back to the road. Dustin secretly scowled at Steve for checking out his sister.

"How do we know its not a lizard?" Hailey repeated, raising a perfect fleek eyebrow.

"How do you know its not just a lizard?" Steve nods, side glancing her way again.

"Because his face opened up and he ate our cat." She speaks harshly and his face softens for the girl. He knew how much that cat meant to her.

"I'm sorry for your lost," Steve tells her gently and she lets out a shaky sigh as they pulled up to their house.

They had grabbed a light from the back of Steve's car and Stee holds the light in his hand, Hailey leads them to their basement.

"I don't hear shit," Steve tells them, looking down at the closed red doors that is secured by a padlock now, they had replaced the hockey stick.

"He's in there," Dustin said, standing aside. Steve throws a glance at Dustin and Hailey. Steve had grabbed Hailey's bat and taps the tip of the bat on the door. Nothing had responded. He takes a bigger swing at the door and there was no reply.

Steve shines the light in Dustin's face. "All right, listen, kid. I swear if this is some sort of Halloween prank, you're dead."

"It's not," Hailey speaks the truth. "All right? It's not a prank. Trust me, I'd rather be sleeping if I had a choice."

"Get it out of my face," Dustin hissed, his eyes closed as the light shines on his face.

"You got a key to this thing?" Steve questioned. Dustin had pulled out the key and soon Steve had opened up the basement doors and looked down the stairs that was dark. Steve snatches the bat from Hailey.

He peers down the stairs as he is bent down and Dustin holding the torch as he stands on his right and Hailey on the left. Dustin holds the torch shakily down long stairs.

"Let me see that," Steve takes the light from Dustin.

They see no sign of Dart near the entrance. "He must be further down there," Dustin tells them. "I'll stay up here in case he tries to... Escape."

Steve gave Dustin a look; he shakes his head and looked back down. "Come on, Steve," before Hailey could even take a step closer Steve put the torch under his up and pulled her towards him.

"Are you crazy?" He hissed at her. "I'm not letting you go down there first. In fact, you're staying here, up with Dustin, where it is safe."

Hailey's lips parts to protest but Steve has none of it. He doesn't want her to get hurt down there. "Steve," Hailey glared at him.
