Normal POV

Shadow cried himself to sleep and anger he passed out Sonic stood there, still rubbing his back to comfort him. After he realised that Shadow's asleep, he layed him down and covered him with a blanket.

He than put a hand on Shadows forehead.

"you got a fever..." he said removing the hand. "You don't deserve this, Shadz..."

He got up and went into the kitchen. He started cooking some soup for when the other wakes up. He also made himself some chili dogs which he ate in a matter of seconds.

Just as he put his plate in the sink, Shadow entered the kitchen.

" oh, hey Shadz. I made you something to eat..." Sonic said and Shaodw sat at the counter.

"Sonic..." Shadow began.

"please eat, you're sick and you need to eat"

"Sonic" Shadow started again.

"Shadow...please listen to me"

"Sonic..." Shadow was now panting.

Sonic heard that and turned to him.

"Shad,what's wrong?" Sonic asked  concerned as he put a hand in, Shadows forehead. Shadow placed his hand on Sonics and looked at him.

"I'm fine..." he whispered out.

"no, Shadow. You're not fine.." Sonic said and he had a hint of sadness and concern in his voice.

"Sonic... I want to show you something..." Shaodw whispered again.

"oh, okay. What do you want to show me?" Sonic asked him with a smile.

Shadow walked to him and held his hand.

"chaos... Control!"

He yelled and in a white flash they were somewhere different.

Sonic POV

"is this the ARK?" I asked Shadow.

"yes..."

Then I heard footsteps.

"oh no, someone is here." I panicked.

"we're invisible..." I heard Shadow.

I than saw... Shadow. But a little smaller. He was running around, like he was trying to hide. He than crawled into a big brown jar and hid there, his ears still visible. I almost awed at the sight.

"18...19...20! Ready or not here I come!" I heard a female voice.

Than,a tall blonde girl approached the jar from another hallway.

She saw him and just giggled.

"I wonder where my little Shadow is..."

She said but the ears disappeared.

She looked inside but didn't seem to find her. Than, the little Shadow appeared bahind her.

"boo!" he yelled and the girl flinched.

"Shadz,that's not how you play it... You have to hide and I have to find you..."

The girl giggled again and the little Shadow pouted.

"b-b-but..." he was tearing up. The girl smiled.

"It's okay Shady, we'll play it like that" she kneeled down and hugged him.

The little Shadow hugged her and cryed onto her dress.

"M-Maria...will you be with me forever?" he looked at her.

"yes Shadow... If I won't, someone else will" she smiled.

"b-but I don't want anyone else..."

"Shadow... It's gonna be okay..."

"i-if someone else is gonna be with me... I-I want them to be blue... Just like your hair and your dress. So I will always remember you!" little Shadow smiled at the girl.

I looked at Shadow. He was smiling. Tears in his eyes.

"Maria?"

"yes,Shadow?"

"C-can you tell me what 'love' means... You used that word but I never really found out what it means"

They sat in front of the big glass and looked at Earth.

"Love is a feeling... When you like spending time with someone... And you, don't want to replace them... You feel safe"

"in that case... I love you, Maria" little Shadow smiled the cutest smile I've ever seen.

She smiled back at him.

"but... Maybe I won't forever be with you... And you're going to find a love of your life..."

"what do you mean... Like a girl...?"

"girl or boy. Whatever you feel like" she smiled at him.

"no girl will ever be like you... I want a boy than!" little Shadow crossed his arms.

Maria giggled at him.

"you will find him. Just remember, try to be friendly, don't fish them away. Show him you love him"

"I don't want to..." little Shaodw said and looked at Maria.

She patted his head.

"just do what you feel like... But remember, it may be the person you last expected it to be" Maria said and he smiled.

"describe what kind of boy you want"

Little Shadow got up and jumped.

"I want him to be brave... To help people, to protect you and be, to always be there for me!"

"good boy" Maria told him.

Than, a hit was heard.

"Maria,Shadow... RUN!"

It was Gerald Robotnik.

"grandpa, what happened?" Maria asked and ran after him, dragging Shadow beingbehind her.

"they found us!" the scientist yelled and Shadow looked at Maria. He picked up speed and now he dragged Maria.

They entered a room, while Gerald was in another one.

"Maria,come here. Let's go!"

Little Shadow than walked into one of the capsules.

Than, the capsule closed and it was locked.

"Maria?!"

"promise me, Shadow..."

"Maria!"

I looked at Shadow. He was gripping his chest with his left hand. I took his right hand and he looked at me. I smiled at him and continued to watch.

I felt him squeeze it.

"Shadow...I really wanted to visit Earth with you... But it seems like you are going alone... Promise me... You will be friends with people... You will help and protect them..."

"Maria!" little Shadow was crying and banging on the glass from inside.

"Sayonara, Shadow the hedgehod..."

And she pulled the plug,getting shot right afterwards.

In another flash... We were back in Shadows house.

I looked at him.

Now both of us we're crying.

I hugged him and he hugged me back.

We felt down on our knees and I whispered something in his ear.

"I will be your Maria... Shadow..."
