Want to b-ball? - Y

He has never asked her that before, much less over text. Younghyun tends to be old-fashioned and Teddy has always been under the impression that he hates basketball. He didn't look the part whatsoever. But who cares for probing the mystery when all she wants to do is reread three words over and over—three words and a question mark. After an extra minute of contemplating, she elects for replying.

      Sure - T

      There. Short and simple.

      Court in ten - Y

Teddy is no fool; knows he most likely wants to thrash out—eyeball-to-eyeball. The same way she does, except she's been awaiting an opening. And that was the problem with cowards, they never did anything on their own. But as Teddy springs out of bed, discarding her short shorts and pushing energized legs into sweats instead, she hightails for the door, quickly telling Sungjin she would 'be back whenever' as she chooses worn Vans over Crocs.

There is absolutely no need for her roommate to get meddlesome, waste valuable time he could devote to being himself: starting early on an assignment due next week. It would be so unlike him, yes, but of late it would seem the company of Jaehyung and Wonpil combined can only hit with full force. Now, both boys have him getting in touch with a side that probably existed, but stayed locked up all these years. The hellion duo have managed to find the keys—Bob the Sweetheart reads less these days and pays more attention to subliminal details:

What's up with you and that ... guy? Sungjin is a born angel, so he doesn't go along with the crowd and spits out the same autonyms he hears them call Younghyun. But before the bonfire and its attendant storm that ostensibly drove a wedge between her and Younghyun, Teddy remembers the only time the raven she hasn't spoken to for weeks cited as a topic in Sungjin's head was that one time she was sick last year. Having not seen the sun for four days, the bully was getting worried. So he did the unlikely by asking the fastest person to reach her. According to her roommate, Younghyun looked like he had been pulling his hair out while running miles in cement shoes.

Of course, an exaggeration, Teddy used to think.

A lot has taken place ever since and she doesn't know...

The outdoor court would be deserted by now and perhaps because she looks forward to this, the trek on foot starts to feel much longer. Halfway there, Teddy has a series of epiphanies cascade on her thoughts, winded and distorted, and she realises it wouldn't have been a bad idea to take a breather, then ask Sungjin for his car keys. And knowing Younghyun, he must have taken the smarter initiative and driven his Benz there. Now, he sits on a warm bench trying to see for how long he could hear the basketball smack against concrete while he waits.
