Trust Me-A Fitzphie Story

Chapter Six

They went downstairs to find the whole group sitting on the sofas. Sophie's fingers we're still tangled with Fitz's. He squeezed her hand and let go.

Sophie sat down on the sofa next to him dreading the conversation ahead. Fitz offered her his shoulder which she gratefully leaned on.

"Soooo," Keefe said awkwardly, "I think we all want to know what happened today. Not the mushy Fitzphie stuff but the Foster-is-a-now-a-Level-Six stuff."

Sophie opened her mouth to speak but Fitz was first, saving her for the second time today from saying something dumb. "This morning when I went to Havenfield to pick up Sophie to go with her to Foxfire Magnate Leto was outside her house and he asked me to take her over to his office after announcements, so I told him I would and I went inside to find her."

"I said without the mushy Fitzphie stuff." Keefe reminded him.

Fitz rolled his eyes and put his arm around her. He continued, "When we got there we had a hard time getting inside because everyone was swarming us, so I kind of forgot to tell her about it."

"Okay, First of all, it's obvious why everyone was swarming you and Foster," Keefe told him, "and don't think we can't see those matching bracelets on your guys' wrists. I'm pretty sure we all saw them the minute you walked in, so don't pretend there not there. Second of all, if you guys were trying to hide the whole I love you so much thing. You guys are terrible at it. Just so you know. Continue."

"Okay, Anyway as I was saying," Fitz said, "I took Sophie over to the Level Six area because I didn't want to leave her yet." He was interrupted by Dex groaning but he didn't seem to notice. He pulled Sophie closer to him and said, "She started heading to her Infliciting Session and then I remembered and called her back and we went to Magnate Leto's office. He told us that Sophie was going to be promoted to Level Six and then he said we were going to do all our classes together. Then I think he got a little uncomfortable when I started hugging her and he kicked us out of his office so we came here."

"Dude, how many times do I have to tell you that I don't want to hear about you guys doing your mushy stuff, okay?" Keefe looked up at her and Fitz who were cuddling really closely now.

"Wait." Biana said, "You're saying that you just like skipped 2 whole levels in Foxfire?"

"Yes." Sophie said, "I mean at least it's not 6 years ahead."

"I forgot about you telling us that," Lihn said from an armchair next to Tam's. Tam was looking at her and Fitz jealously like every other boy in the room. Sophie was unsure what to do but she stayed clung to Fitz because he didn't seem to mind so why should she?

"Are we going talk about what's going on between you two?" Tam asked them nervously fidgeting with his bangs.

Keefe cleared his thought' "For the first time in the world I actually with Bangs Boy on this one. I really want to know what is going on here." He gestured towards Sophie and Fitz who still cuddling. Sophie really wanted to hide. Fitz let go of her and they both looked back at the Keefe, Tam, and Dex who were all scowling. Linh and Biana were now looking at the two of them intently.

Finally, after what Sophie considered as Eternity she said, "Alright, I'll tell you, but this is going to be super embarrassing so can we just all get into bed, and then I'll tell you. It will be easier if I don't have to see the expressions on your faces."

"Okay, sounds good!" Biana said, " I'll grab some extra pair of pajamas for Sophie and Lihn and Fitz can get the boys pajamas." She ran upstairs. 

Fitz got up a little slower and gestured for Sophie to follow him. Once no one else could hear them she said, "I didn't know what else to say. It's hard to see them all so angry. Even Tam and he can do some serious damage."

"You did the right thing, Sophie." He sighed, "Keefe's going to tease us forever you know, right? But then again that's not new."

"Fitz, I just don't know what to do and it's scary to admit to everyone else. I was scared for years to tell you and now that I know you like me and were together like it's not scary anymore. The thing is they want me to like them not you, but I don't like them. I mean they're good friends but I don't like them the way they like me, and now I'm going to stop rambling because you're probably going to think I'm crazy."

He smiled his perfect smile and brushed her hair behind her ear and said, "I know what it's like to have people crushing on you and you don't like them back. I mean I did know them as well as you know Keefe, Tam, and Dex but I understand how you feel and I'm going to help get you through it. I'll explain tonight. You can just lay there. You don't have to worry. Okay?"

"Okay." She repeated and then to her surprise he bent over and kissed her on the cheek.

"Let's go back downstairs, Sophie. We can take it from there. Just please tell me when to stop and what you want to tell them. I trust you and more importantly, I love you."
