Chapter 11
The last few weeks have passed with nothing eventful happening. Stephen hasn't tried to pull anything since sending me the flowers or if he has, I don't know about it. It makes me so uneasy to know he's out there and can try anything at any moment. Kyle tells me to be patient but it is hard on me, knowing he's out there lying in wait. Kyle and I have pretty much fallen into a daily routine of going to work then locking ourselves up in the house. It's really starting to ware down on me and both Kyle and Katherine are starting to worry.
It's now Friday and Kyle just picked Ben and me up from school. The last few days I have felt like someone is constantly watching me but maybe it's just my nerves playing with my brain. We drop Ben off with his grandmother then head straight home. I can tell Kyle is tense about something but he's not saying a word.
"Kyle, I'm afraid you are going to cut the circulation off to your fingers if you don't loosen your grip on the steering wheel. What are you thinking about?" I look over to see him relax just a little.
"I'm just frustrated about not being able to find that bastard. He's been lying low for too long now. I know he's not giving up." He states.
"How do you know that? Maybe he has." I can only hope.
"The day I talked to him, he told me he was a patient man. He's got something up his sleeve, I can just feel it."
We drive along in silence for a while longer. If Stephen is planning something, I hope he's caught before he gets to carry out that plan.
"Kyle, can we please go out and do something tonight? I'm really about to go crazy staying in the house all the time." I say trying to give Kyle the best pouty look I can make.
It must be working because he groans as soon as he sees it.
"Baby, you know that's not a good idea. It will be harder to keep you safe out in public."
We pull in the driveway and head straight inside while I'm trying my best to plead my case.
"Maybe if we are out in a crowd then nothing will happen. We could just go to Joe's and go dancing." I trail off and rush straight to the bathroom.
A sick, nauseous feeling washes over me. Probably the damn tuna salad I had for lunch, I think to myself. I hear footsteps rushing down the hall behind me.
"Sweetheart, are you okay?" Kyle asks while grabbing a cloth to wet it for me.
After another nauseous wave attacks me, I raise my head to answer him.
"I'm fine. I think it was the tuna salad I had for lunch. I feel a lot better now." I say then try to stand up.
"Are you sure? You want some water or anything?" He asks.
"Some water would be great."
I slowly make my way to the kitchen to sit down at the table.
Kyle makes me a glass of water and as soon as the cool liquid touches my lips, I start to feel a lot better. I can feel the color coming back to my face. Just because I just got rid of my lunch, doesn't mean I'm abandoning my quest for a night out, so I give Kyle another pouty look.
