Chapter 16
A few months have passed since the end of my nightmare at the lake house. Jaime fully recovered from the concoction Stephen used to knock him out, Katherine and I are both back at school and Kyle is back doing his normal routine of patrolling the streets of our home town.
A few days after everything settled down, I packed my stuff and moved in with Katherine who had fully convinced herself that she could live without John. She was only trying to fool herself. I could hear her crying herself to sleep every night. I really didn't like seeing her like this so Kyle and I would try to do anything we could think of to try to bring her out of her misery but I never worked until today.
I asked her if she would go with me to the doctor to find out what the sex of the baby will be. Kyle has a meeting with the mayor so he suggested I take Katherine.
"You know this baby will be spoiled rotten, right?" Katherine asks with a huge smile.
"Yes, I'm fully aware of that. Tonight we are going to tell Ben when we tell our parents."
"He will love it."
We walk into the office and I sign myself in. Luckily, it only takes a few minutes to be called back. The nurse checks my height and weight then ushers us into a small room with an ultrasound machine.
"Ms. Morgan, if you could, put that gown on and I'll be right back." The nurse says then steps back out of the room.
I start to strip down; the scars left from Stephen over a year ago are almost unnoticeable now. I put the paper thin gown on then climb up on the cold table, all the while my nerves are starting to get to me.
"Are you nervous or cold?" Katherine asks from the only chair in the room.
"A little of both." I say with a smile.
"I think it's a girl." Katherine states.
"Oh God, I hope not. When Kyle and I were talking about it the other night, he turned pale as soon as I said the word 'girl'. He told me he couldn't handle another me running around." I say laughing at the thought.
When we talked about the baby the other night, Kyle had all these plans about how he would teach him all about football and teach him how to fish; just like he's teaching Ben now. He is thoroughly convinced the baby is a boy.
After he finished his spill about what he would teach him, I asked him what if the baby was a girl and he turned white as a sheet. I thought for a moment he was going to pass out, but he turned to me with the most horrified look.
"Amy, we can't have a girl. What if she has your eyes? I can't have a smaller version of you running around. Let's just not say the 'g' word anymore."
I still can't get his horrified look out of my head.
The nurse walks back in the room.
"Are you ready? Let's find out what this little booger is." She says with a smile.
