Casey POV

I am once again in the cafeteria. I tap my fingernails on the table impatiently, as I wait for the rest of the group to show up. I haven't seen Teresa for a while, and I wonder where she is and when we are going to see her again.

A few minutes later, I look up to see Thomas, Newt, and the rest of the group approaching. They come to sit down at the table that I am at, and just like yesterday, we eat as Mr. Janson stands at the back of the room and starts calling names. I notice that Thomas looks nervous and indecisive. As the names are finished being called out, Thomas stands up. "I'll be right back." He mutters. He then walks away before any of us can say anything.

I watch him walk to the door, but just like before, he is stopped by a guard. They appear to be arguing, then Thomas turns around and begins to walk away, but then turns around and tries to shove his way past the guard. Newt immediately stands up and runs over to Thomas, the rest of us follow soon after. As we all get there, Mr. Janson appears, looking at Thomas in concern. "Thomas, I thought we could trust each other." He says, with a sly lilt to his voice. "Yeah, I thought I could too." Thomas responds in a challenging tone. They stare each other down, until Mr. Janson says to the other guards. "Take them to their room, and make sure they stay there."

We walk down the halls once again, and once again I am separated from the group. The whole time I am wondering what Thomas was trying to do. He should have known that there was no chance of getting past those guards, so why did he do it?

Newt POV

I feel angry, confused, and very annoyed at Thomas for what happened back there. I have been in the glade for at least two years, and this is my first chance at a real bed, a real shelter, and guaranteed safety. I do not want Thomas to ruin that for me or anyone else. I do really like Thomas, I think he is a good friend, he can just be impulsive sometimes, and not think things through. I just really don't want to see him get hurt.

We are all shoved back into our room, all except for Casey, who goes to another room with other girls I'm assuming. I can't help but feel worried about her, since she's separated from the group, and alone with no one else she knows. I have to shove that thought aside for now though, right now I need to focus on what's wrong with Thomas.

"What the hell Thomas? Why did you do that?" I demand, letting a little bit of anger seep into my voice. "They're hiding something from us. I don't know what, but something seems off." Thomas says, starting to pace the room. "I don't know either," I sigh in exasperation. "but what I do know is that all they have done so far, was help us. They have given us shelter, clean clothes, and an actual bed. And some of us haven't had that in a long time. Some of us a lot longer than others." I say, giving Thomas a hard look. He looks back at me, guilt flashing through his eyes. "You're probably right. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I need to know for sure." Thomas says, pulling out a card from his pocket. I realize it is one of those passes the guards use to unlock restricted areas. He must have gotten that from the guard he tried to force his way past. He never meant to make it through the door, he just wanted to get that pass.

A few moments pass, then I hear a strange scraping noise coming from the floor. Then, to my amazement, a boy crawls out from under Thomas's bed. I look past him, and see that he came from a grate that was built into the floor. "You ready?" The boy asks, looking up at Thomas. Thomas turns back to us, then says. "I'll be right back." Then he follows the boy under his bed, and disappears into the hole in the ground.
