Chapter 16

Casey POV 

     I start to feel dizzy again as blood quickly rushes to my head. I hang upside down by my ankles, overlooking a massive hole in the concrete ground. The rest of the group is here too, gravity pulling at our hair and clothes. 

     "Enjoying the view?" Jorge asks sarcastically, walking up to us from the platform all around the circle in the floor. "I still want answers about WCKD. For starters, where are they?" He continues. "I don't know." Thomas answers. Jorge walks closer, then puts one of his hands down on a lever sticking out of the ground. He then pulls the lever, and we are instantly lurched down slightly from the ceiling. I gasp in pain as the wound in my side stretches a little. "We honestly don't know where they are." Thomas gasps. "I'll get answers soon enough." Jorge says, walking away. "Hang in there." 

     I look around at the platform that stretches all around us, but it's not close enough to try and grab on to. I then have another idea. I look up at the chain that is connected to my ankles, and lurch my body forward, clasping my hands around my forelegs. I glance back at the others, but they are making their own plan. I gradually make my way to the clasps around my ankles, then grab onto the actual chain. I then force my body upwards, ignoring the white hot pain in my side. I start to climb the chain, up until I reach the ceiling. 

     I look down at everyone else, surprised that they didn't notice me, but they are too focused on trying to push Teresa over to the ledge. I balance on the pole that is holding everyone else up. I unlatch my chains around my ankles, then use them to help me get back on the ground. 

     Once I'm finally back down on a steady surface, I make my way over to where Teresa is trying to grab onto. She's trying to grab the mechanism that pulled us down earlier. She swings forward, just brushes the bar with her fingertips, then starts to fall back. I quickly lean forward, and grab her wrist. She looks up at me in surprise. I grin at her, then say. "Need help?"
