Casey POV

I gaze out the window of the helicopter, watching the abandoned and destroyed city. Sand is everywhere, covering everything. I watch the blue sky being swallowed up by dark clouds. Moments later, it begins to rain. A storm is upon us, as we fly into the broken city.

As night approaches, I see a building approaching, one with lights, one with power. We land on the sand, grains of it flying everywhere. Moments later, the doors to the helicopter open, and we are a herded outside. We are ordered to run to the building. I run as fast as I can, through the wind and rain. Behind me, I hear gun shots, and the screams of the infected as they die.

We finally make it inside, the heavy metal doors slowly closing behind us. A man wearing all black and grey approaches us, his expression sly and smug. "You kids all right?" He asks, smiling at us. "Where are we?" Thomas asks. I look around, and realize we are in some sort of warehouse. The man starts walking, and we follow. "Think of this as your new home. A safe haven, away from the dangers of the outside world." As he is talking, my eyes wander around the huge room. There are many levels, with wires and pipes everywhere. It seems like a very industrial safe haven. When I think of a safe haven, I think of living in a tropical place, with beaches and palm trees. But maybe I'm just delusional. Although, when I look at everyone else, they have a similar expression of uneasiness.

I am only half listening to what the man is saying. I pick up that his name is Mr. Janson and that he is going to protect us from W.C.K.D, the company that has trapped us in a maze. "I'm not sure if I entirely believe that though. It just seems too convenient that they were there waiting for us to get out of the maze. Maybe I am just overthinking it, maybe this place is safe." I look over at Newt to see his expression, but it's hard to read on his face what he is thinking. "Does he trust this? Probably. He's been in the maze for a lot longer than I have, so he probably wants to be somewhere safer. I just hope nothing bad happens to us. Or we get separated."  I am so caught up in my thoughts, that I hadn't realized we had stopped. I plant my feet onto the ground just before I accidentally run into the guy in front of me. Beyond us is a plain metal door. It looks a lot like all the other metal doors we passed, so I'm not sure what makes this one so special. "Behind this door," Mr. Janson says to us. "Is the start to your new lives."
