Casey POV

It hurts so much. It feels as if someone has stabbed me in the side, but keeps taking out the knife and plunging it back into the wound over and over, getting deeper every time. I almost lose my balance and fall over, but I manage to keep myself upright and somehow keep running.

I am slower than usual, but there is nothing I can do. I physically cannot go any faster without loosing more blood, also, my body just doesn't allow it. Luckily, no one seems to notice this, as we run out of the building and into the night.

We run through the sand dunes, trying to get as far away from the building as possible. I then see bright lights out of my peripheral vision. I know they are vehicle headlights, but I refuse to turn around and see how close they are.

"Over here!" Teresa calls. A few dunes away, is what looks like an abandoned building almost completely submerged in sand. There are some windows visible, and one of them is broken. Teresa goes in, then Thomas, then the rest of them, Newt being the last besides me. He looks back at me to make sure I'm still there, before disappearing within the glass.

I have to crouch down slightly to get into the hole, which causes bright pain to flare through my body. I push through though, and make it through the glass, only to start sliding down a giant sand dune. I come within seconds of crying out in pain, but I clamp my mouth shut before I can make any noise.

I'm not sure why I don't want to tell anyone that I am injured. Maybe it's because I know that we have to keep moving, and we can't let anything slow us down. Or maybe it's because I'm embarrassed to admit that I am impenetrable, and I can get hurt and possibly die. Or maybe it's a mixture of both. I just don't want to appear weak, and slow everyone down. I'll just fix it later, and no one will have to know.

Newt POV

I slide down the large sand dune, and into a massive area that is completely coated with sand. From what I can see, which isn't much because it's so dark, it seems like we are in a mall possibly. We are standing in the main walkway, and off to the sides are empty rooms, spaced out evenly across the walls around us.

Casey slides up next to me a moment later. I notice she seems more tense than usual, and her stance is a little off, as if she's leaning more to one side because her other side hurts. Her left hand is clamped around her side, right underneath her rib cage. It is too dark to tell, but I'm pretty sure she is trying to cover up a pained expression on her face.

"Ok, so do you mind telling us what's going on?" I demand, putting my focus back on Thomas and the current situation we are in. "It's Wicked. They were lying to us. If we stayed there, we probably would have died. That's why we needed to get out so quickly." Thomas explains. "So what's your plan then? Now that we're out in the real world." I ask. Thomas looks uncertain and hesitant. "Well....I have heard that there are people in the mountains that could help us." He finally says. I look at him skeptically. "Mountain people? That's your plan? How do we even know they exist?" Annoyance prickles inside me. "Once again, the impulsive side of Thomas gets us into trouble. Although, if he is right, and that was Wicked, he saved all of our asses. Maybe it is better that we're out here, but now we have to be a hell of a lot more careful." I think to myself. "I don't. But that's then best shot we have." Thomas says, possibly with a hint of regret in his voice.

"Okay, well for now we should probably try and find some supplies before we leave." I decide, looking around at everyone. We all agree to look around, and meet up later. I am about to wander off, until I notice something dark on the ground near my foot, around where Casey was standing. I shine my flashlight on it. It is blood. I look up at Casey, who is walking away from me, her back to me. She is still holding her side, but with better light, I can see that her shirt around her hand is soaked red, and drops of blood are slowly trickling down the cracks between her fingers, then dropping onto the sand. Casey is hurt, very hurt.
