Flight of Starlit Geese

To be out on the sea when darkness falls is special

To watch the sunset drain away like citrus juice,

And the evening star glow above the mountains

There's a change in the air,

The cool breeze smells of night

A new scent, clean with sea salt but spiced with darkness,

As the first inklings of stars begin to show.

And I can lie back in my kayak,

Cradled by mountains robed in coal,

Impenetrable blackness stretching below me,

gazing out into endless space.

Land rugged in charcoal  and ink,

Rocks glowing through like tarnished silver

The lights of the town spilling down across the water;

Lone houses glowing from the trees.

And a flight of starlit geese comes dashing through the dusk,

Rough wingbeats and dark forms,

Fast and shadowy and disappearing before I can even think.

The water seems thicker somehow,

Like paddling through cream;

Velvet surface glimmering softly,

Venus a flickered reflection,

And I can't help but think,

For a world of darkness, it is surprisingly full of light.

Another very unedited one I'm afraid... but I liked the imagery. Basically I just love kayaking - it's a very poetic sport 😂

Vote if you like the photo ;)

Hope you're all well and not partaking in dangerous sports like kayaking during lockdown *gasps*
(Don't worry I wrote it before Covid XD)

Hope you enjoyed, Cassie xxx
