Two hours had passed by in a blur calming our nerves as we loafed around aimlessly, Sonia had relaxed in the foreign environment and I was happy to know that she was enjoying the party in the real sense-we had bounced off with a heavy crowd on an energetic dancing number, enjoyed a freshly cooked meal of lobsters accompanied with a couple of other Australian special dishes, had changed yachts till we finally decided to go to the beach, tasted six flavours of wine, beer, a shot of whisky and 666 vodkas, a native Australian vodka made from the clear waters of Cape Grim. She had laughed at the random jokes I was cracking and had turned wild as if it was the only moment she had been waiting for all her life. Maybe the alcohol had made her temporarily brave.
'Are you having fun? Do you find it acceptable now when you are mixing along? I hope you aren't feeling out of place anymore.' I urged Sonia as I dragged her to a secluded corner in between the rows of palm trees. We had travelled to an island nearby the Darling Harbour booked exclusively for the party. The crowd there wasn't as loud as on the yachts and the port, but it was there to make the party buzzing. It had been long for I had heard from the boys, but I didn't feel like calling them. They might be having fun or they would have pinged while I was sharing my version of peace with Sonia.
'Out of place? You have got to be kidding me. It's the most beautiful night of my life. I have never lived something as fascinating as this night, Sur. I feel thrilled. There is some kind of energy flowing in each cell. Electricity, Eh? I feel so alive. Thank you for bringing me to this heaven.' Sonia purred as she paced back and forth, swinging our arms in motion, but stumbled on her heels soon after unable to balance on the sand. I hurriedly caught her elbow to steady her, but she shrugged it off and leaned on my chest to support her weight. Her shallow breaths were fanning over my half-exposed chest, awakening goosebumps at a few places. I could smell a tinge of mint in her breath, perhaps the mouth freshener we had had after supper had lingered for a while and a strong gush of alcohol in each exhale made the environment exotic.
'You are wasted!' I whispered in her ear when she closed her eyes tiredly and cringed at her exhaustion. 'Do you want to rest? I have the key to a cabin. We need to walk a little but you will be able to sleep peacefully.' I asked her concerned to never receive a reply, but she did speak after some time.
'You know, I have always wished to behave rebelliously as they show on the TV. You know, mix with random people, and enjoy the sweet wine and gulping down shots of strong alcohol. Shhh! don't tell anyone, it was my darkest fantasy to taste shots of vodka in mugs. Thank you, my Suri-Muri; you have made me live some of my fantasies today.' She hiccupped, burped and giggled as she pinched my left cheek and kissed thereafter.
'I promise to make you live all your fantasies as long as you promise to stay by my side. Thank you for trusting me, Sonia. I owed you this.' I grinned putting my white teeth on display while eyeing the woman I had been trying to vow so hard. She smiled a heart-warming toothy smile that had made my heart skip a beat, before letting out a heavy sigh in reply. 'Stop being so formal, Sur. You owe me nothing. In fact, after tonight, I owe you everything. Tell me if I can do anything for you. What's your darkest fantasy? Tell me if I can fulfil it. I'd love to get even.' Sonia purred detaching herself as she walked in a random direction without waiting for a reply.
'Where are you going? Do you want to rest? Are you tired, princess?' I asked getting along with her as she nodded her head aggressively with a frown plastered on her face.
'The heels are killing me. I'm thirsty, Sur. Want to drink something before we slip into the cabin?' She offered as she advanced towards a convertible pavement turned into a bar adjacent to a podium. I tailed after denying her wish.
'No more alcohol, Sonia! You have had enough. You will have a jolly hangover in the morning. We have to sightsee tomorrow with everyone. I don't want you to wake up all grumpy and groaning.' I instructed as earnestly as I could manage but she shrugged the warning off giggling. Sonia squealed jumping on her feet when she spotted a bonfire. Her actions had left me confused nevertheless I chuckled at her flustered face and took her to the place. She was high on, it was clear by the way she was stumbling and the alcohol had started to kick in my sense too. The night had revealed other forty-nine shades of my cutie and I felt blessed to witness it. Seemingly, she wasn't as boring as she wanted to appear to be. She was fun, wild, and aggressive and had her own set of fantasies. She hadn't hesitated in revealing it and such that a few drinks later we were sitting in a secluded corner towards my right in a semi-bonfire cum barbeque with barely six people forming a circle. Each lost in their mini-universe, eating kebab, playing the dirty truth and dare, kissing, sucking and making out.
