Will Byers anxiously sifted through his closet and looked for anything and everything fancy. He didn't find much, but he found a cute sweater, dress pants and fancy shoes. Will gave a sigh of relief as he got dressed.
At this same moment Mike Wheeler nervously paced his room, rethinking his conversation with Will in wood shop. Did I sound too desperate? Am I taking things too fast? I-I'm sure it's fine. Will seemed happy... Mike shook his head to clear his thoughts. He glanced at the outfit he had laid out on his bed. A button down shirt and a sweater to wear over it with jeans and new sneakers. Pretty typical for Mike, but a little fancier than his casual apparel.
Mike looked down at his watch and realized he should get going. He bounded down the stairs and hopped on his bike.
Will rushed outside his house after calling to his mom, Joyce, and hurriedly started biking towards Starcourt.
~~
Mike finally arrived at Starcourt mall a few minutes early. He locked up his bike and leaned up against the wall. His heart rate gradually slowed as he stood in the shadow of the awning above.
Will pulled up on his bike right on time. He saw Mike and felt his heart skip a beat. Mike came over from where he was standing in the cool shadows.
"So, what movie do you want to see?" Mike asked awkwardly, realizing they hadn't discussed it.
"Uh, any's fine really. Except a horror film." Will answered. It didn't really matter what movie they watched, he just wanted to spend time with Mike.
"Well I think the next showings are soon, so we should probably head to the theater." Mike informed.
They chatted a little as they walked, dissolving the awkwardness between them. When they finally reached the theater they picked a romantic comedy. They got some popcorn and found their seats in one of the middle rows. There weren't many others in the showing, maybe 30 other people.
All the popcorn had been eaten within twenty minutes. Will moved to put his hand on the armrest, and Mike seemed to have the same idea. As their hands touched they could both feel the heat rise in their faces. "Sorry." Mike murmured. But he didn't take his hand away. He felt Will's soft hand under his and they both sat in silence until almost the end of the movie.
Will's heart was beating quickly. He felt the warmth of Mike's hand and he felt the warmth in his face. He snuck a glance at Mike when he wasn't looking. Mike may have given a sideways glance or two at Will as well.
As the movie drew to a close, Will turned to Mike and Mike looked his way too. Mike smiled, and Will returned it with his own.
"Hey, do you want to get some ice cream?" Mike suggested.
"Sure. I haven't had dinner and you ate a lot of the popcorn." Will teased, a smile spreading on his face.
Mike smiled too. "It's not my fault, it's just so good."
The pair made their way to Scoops Ahoy and Mike rang the bell on the counter multiple times. Steve Harrington made his way to the front, looking annoyed. "How many times have I got to tell you Wheeler, that's unnecessary. What can I get you kids?" He asked.
"I'll take one scoop of strawberry." Will replied softly.
"And I'll get one scoop of butterscotch." Mike added.
Steve came back with their ice cream begrudgingly. "So are you guys, like, a thing now? Don't worry I'm not judging or anything I just heard from your friend Max that El and you aren't together." He asked Mike.
Mike and Will blushed. "Yeah. But... don't tell anybody. Seriously Steve don't out us." Mike said quietly.
"Your secrets safe with me. But only if you stop ringing the damn bell so many times." Steve smiled at them.
Will and Mike enjoyed their ice cream in a booth, finishing quickly due to their hunger. "So, um, my mom doesn't know about us, but I think she suspects that I'm gay. What about you?" Will said quietly.
"My parents don't know a thing. I'm scared they won't be okay with my bisexuality. Especially my dad." Mike replied, embarrassed.
Will nodded. "Well, we don't have school tomorrow, so do you want to maybe sleepover?" he asked Mike hopefully.
"Sure." Mike smiled at him, causing Will to blush.
💕🌈🌈💕
Hi readers! This chapter's layout was a bit weird and kind of long, but I felt that it was important to include their first date and the progression of their relationship.
So they are sleeping over but like I stated in the description there will be no smut because they are still young teens and I don't want to encourage that sort of thing at a young age. Sorry if that disappoints some of you, but I won't change that.
Anyway, I haven't really planned this fanfiction, I kind of just roll with it. This is my first fanfiction, so I apologize for its' quality and how it jumps around a lot.
I am also feeling like it maybe rushes their relationship a little, but I think it's balanced because it doesn't have them kissing in the first chapter, but I also won't make you wait until the end of the story for anything.
I'm actually going to change the name of this fic because there are a lot of others with the same name, so if you have any name suggestions, please message me or comment.
Thank you for bearing with me and reading this story!
