My dearest apologies, children, there will be a homophobic slur and mild violence. Reader discretion is advised.
Mike hung the phone back on the wall and sighed shakily. He has to do this. For Will.
He shuffled over to where his parents sat, trembling. "Mom, Dad, I have something I need to tell you."
They looked confused, but intrigued.
Mike breathed in deeply and remembered the words of encouragement his boyfriend had given him moments ago. "I'm bisexual." he ripped off the band-aid, still quaking. Mike shut his eyes in his nervousness.
After a few moments of silence, Mike opened one eye slowly. He saw his mother's and father's faces donning similar looks of surprise, though his father's looked a bit more outraged.
"Mike, that's...that's great! Is there a special someone?" Karen winked at that last part.
Mike blushed a bit, the corners of his mouth curling in a smile at the thought of his beloved Will. "Uh, yeah, actually." He stuttered out, his face getting redder every second.
Mike was still smiling when he noticed that his dad still hadn't said anything. Mike's mom, seeming to notice this, prompted a response from Ted, "Isn't that great, honey?"
Ted looked at her, an expression of undeniable anger lingering on his face.
*Trigger warning ahead*
"I will not tolerate a faggot in this house! You can't like boys, you like girls, you damn liar!" He spat, rising from his seat on the sofa. "Get out of my house!" he screeched at Mike.
Mike stood, frozen. He had respected shock and maybe some questions, but not this. No, no, no, NOT this.
This can't be happening... Mike could only just make out the faint arguing of his parents in the background of his thoughts but could not make out what they were saying.
He looked up for a second, tears forming in his eyes as he saw his dad shove his mom across the room. Then, he looked over at Mike with a look of disgust. Mike backed away slowly but turned his pace in to a run when his father sped up.
With Karen yelling in the background and tugging on Ted's jacket, Mike sprinted up to his room, grabbed only the bare necessities, and ran back downstairs as fast as he could.
He was out the door in a few moments. He bounded towards his bike, hopped on it and peddled as fast as humanly possible for someone of his liking.
He didn't stop until he reached Will's house.

Y'all, I'm so sorry about this, I just couldn't help but add more depth to the story. T^T
I know that Ted is portrayed as homophobic in a lot of Byler fanfics and I apologize for using this cliche as well. but I couldn't bring myself to make any other of Mike's family members abusive. And not Will's, I couldn't disrespect our queen Joyce. Though I could have made Lonnie homophobic...I'll shelve that.
Anyways, life will get better for our gays, I promise! For a bit I might focus more on the others in the group though, like our lovely Elmax <3
Until then, thanks for reading and I hope this angst didn't break your hearts too much!
xoxo, Sam
