Sophie's POV
I started breathing heavier after aunty Karlie told me to sit down on the chair. I know my mum trusts her very well but how can I trust her she's a dentist. "Hey Soph, come sit here please I promise I'm not gonna hurt you," Karlie says sympathetically. I shake my head no and Gigi comes behind me and picks me up and places me on her lap as she sits down. I started breathing heavier and I couldn't stop it made me feel like I was gonna have an anxiety attack. "Hey Soph what does your mum tell you about fear," Karlie asks softly. "I am learning this about myself – when I am scared and anxious, I get controlling and mean. I am working on a different response, but in the meantime, I am learning to interpret my unpleasantness for my family so they know I am struggling and need time, space, and understanding," I say nervously. "Yeah just think about that hun," Karlie says encouragingly. I start thinking about it and I start calming down and Karlie pulls down my chin and starts checking my teeth. Soon I felt a tiny poke I couldn't tell what it was but I was calmer just thinking about what was going on. Soon I felt like I came back into reality and saw aunty Karlie take the polisher out of my mouth. "Good job Soph, you're done, that wasn't too bad," Karlie says encouragingly. Soon my mum came into the room and gave a soft encouraging smile. "How was that Soph," my mum asks softly. "It wasn't too bad," I say with a small smile. "Well I'm glad thanks Karlie," my mum says picking me up. "You're welcome Kim and Soph," Karlie says with a small smile as we leave.
