Present time.
Rome, Italy.

The rustling of paper was heard in the quiet office. Valerius raised his eyes from the file and looked across at Dimitri who sat quietly in the chair. His reading glasses were placed on the seat beside him, and he seemed to stare into the open space.
"Dimitri?"
No answer.
"Dimitri?"
No answer.
"Dimitri!"
He flinched and the papers on his lap scattered around the floor as they fell. He met the furious gaze of Valerius and quickly shook his head to end his reverie.
"Si?" He asked, clearing his throat.
Valerius only looked at him with a calculating gaze, "What is on your mind?"
Dimitri opened his mouth and closed it again. He knew that there was no one he would rather talk to than Valerius, they were friends for fucks sake, even after becoming the Don, Valerius had never tried to change their bond.
"Well," He began, "for instance, we have not found the mole, yet. Vladimir messed with our shipments which caused us enough trouble. The protected information was leaked. Worst of all, Valentina was harmed. We have kept an eye on every associate of ours." He released a deep sigh, "Antonio and I have been monitoring every single move. Everything just leads to a dead end."
Valerius figured that there was more to the story, "What else?"
Dimitri placed his elbows forward on the table, "If we do not find the person behind all this, we will have no proof against Vladimir. It is just our word. Even if we strip him of his title at the next meeting, we will still need to provide a reason." His breathing ragged, "I do not understand what the person is getting from helping him. Vladimir might get the power, but what is he offering in return?"
"My position."
"What?" Dimitri's eyes widened.
Valerius leaned closer, "If the person helping him gets my position, there will be nothing standing in their way. Vladimir will have no one to question his motives."
"Power for power." Dimitri proclaimed.
Valerius nodded, "Power for power."
"I need to dig deeper. We are missing someone. There has to be a slip-up. Anything." Dimitri grunted, tapping the pen in his hand against the wooden desk.
"We will," Valerius said, nodding his head. He loosened the tie around his neck and flexed his fingers.
Before Dimitri could speak, his phone rang and he placed it on his ear, answering it. He ended the call after a few seconds, "I am needed at the warehouse."
"Leave and send in Antonio," Valerius ordered. Dimitri gave him a nod and grabbed the papers from the floor, binding them together. He passed one glance at Valerius and then left the office after bidding him farewell.
Valerius placed his hand on one of the drawers on his left side. He opened it and took the single file laying inside in his hands. He traced the title with his fingers and threw it forward on the desk.
He closed his eyes and leaned his head back. His forehead throbbed in pain and he clutched it tightly in his hands.
Don't be weak, never be weak.
His father's words rang in his head. He only massaged his neck once and then continued working on the files placed in front of him; it would take Antonio some time to reach him.
The door to his office opened and he kept his head down, knowing all well there was only one person who could enter his office without his permission.
"Good afternoon." The sweet voice rang in the air, leaving a smile on his lips. Valentina could change his mood in a second.
The headache was long gone.
He raised his head and placed his hand out, "What a beautiful afternoon." He said, eyeing her from head to toe. Her black satin dress pants paired with a white shirt made her match him. She carried it even better than him, he thought.
"Did you copy me?" She asked playfully, placing her hand in his and sitting on his lap. He arched his brow at her and chuckled, "I remember being dressed before you, darling."
"My bad." Valentina stuck her tongue out at him. Valerius raised his hand and caressed her hair, "You look heavenly." His compliment made her blush and she giggled while placing a quick peck against his lips.
Valerius had other plans in mind and only pulled her closer to him. His hand wound around the back of her neck as he pressed his lips to her. His tongue entered her mouth, kissing her deeply, passionately. She clutched his shoulders tightly, reciprocating his kiss with the same desire.
He pressed a kiss to her lips gently, once and twice, before pulling away, "My beautiful woman." The rasp of his voice did not go unnoticed by her. She pressed her legs tightly together, and this made Valerius smirk.
"I need to leave for work, otherwise I had a much better plan in mind." She felt him harden beneath her. Valentina wiggled in his lap purposely, earning a groan from him.
"Such a tease." He whispered lowly, the grey in his eyes had darkened.
Valentina winked in reply, "I know."
He placed his hand on her leg and separated her thighs, "Not even a taste?" He asked her, raising his brow.
She shook her head at him, "As tempting as you are, my Valerius, but no."
He leaned closer and pressed his lips to the nape of her neck, he bit her gently and then ran his tongue over it to soothe the sting. He went lower, towards her collarbone, placing rough kisses, enticing moans from her.
"Not even now?" He murmured, his mouth still against her throat. His hands roamed near her waist, tightening his hold on her.
She closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath, composing herself, "No." She pushed him playfully away, "Get a cold shower."
"Oh, I will." Valerius nodded, shifting in his seat. She laughed and ruffled his hair, "Get back to work, and let me work as well."
She was about to leave his lap when he grabbed her hand, "Be careful, alright? Keep Zara close to you." His eyebrows creased as he spoke.
"I will be fine." Valentina assured him, she could sense that he was bothered by something, but he would tell her when he wanted to - she did not want to push him.
He brought her hand to his mouth and placed a kiss on her knuckles, "Mi mancherai, mio cuore."
(I will miss you, my heart)
"Mi mancherai, mi amore." Valentina blew him a kiss and walked towards the door when he let go of her hand.
(I will miss you, my love)
She waved at him and then closed the door behind her, stealing a glance at the small smile on his lips. Valentina was near the stairs when she noticed Antonio making his way up.
"Hi, Antonio." She greeted him softly.
Antonio stopped in his tracks when he noticed her. He grinned at her before greeting her back, "Afternoon, boss lady." His English accent had a hint of Italian, and it was more prominent than Dimitri and Valerius.
"Valerius is in his office." She pointed towards the room. Valentina was about to make a move but he stopped her, "Do you need me to drop you at the gallery?"
Valentina shook her head at him, "Thank you but, I think Valerius is waiting for you."
He nodded at her, running a hand through his brown hair, "Of course." He said, "I will see you later then."
She passed him a smile, "See you."
Both of them moved in different directions, unbeknownst to the hell waiting for them.
