Three days later.
Rome, Italy.
-
Love was not just an infatuation.
It was a matter of the heart.
If you loved someone, you would feel their pain and happiness. Every cry of theirs made you cry, every laugh made you laugh. Your whole world was centered around one person. Your entire being joined with theirs.
For some, it was a weakness, while for others love was a strength.
Valentina thought it was both for her. Valerius was her pillar in the darkest times, but for now, he was her weakness. She could not focus on anything except him.
She talked to him every night.
Valentina was positive he could hear her.
He always listened to her.
"Valerius," She crouched on the carpet beside the bed, "I need you to wake up and tell me that all will be fine. I want you to comfort me, to hold me, like you always did. It has been a week now. Our home seems lonely without your presence. I have no wish to live here if it is without you. You became my whole world so quickly, mi amore. I will not lose you. Not now. Not when everything is becoming normal." A tear left her eye, trailing down her cheek.
"We still have to travel around the world." She chuckled, "You promised me a trip, Valerius. I still want it. Only with you. I haven't thought of a life without you, baby. I won't be able to live one if you are not in it," Valentina gently grabbed his hand in hers, "Dimitri misses you. He won't admit but I can see right through him. I often catch him with tears in his eyes, lost in his thoughts. He lost Antonio, he isn't ready to lose you too. Neither of us are."
Valentina placed her head on the space beside his arm, their hands intertwined, "Come back to me, Valerius."
Her body shook a little, and her eyes struggled to stay open. Silent cries left her lips. But before she could surrender to sleep, Valentina felt a familiar touch on her hair.
"I am here, mio cuore."
She raised her head swiftly as her watery gaze met with his.
He was awake.
Her Valerius was awake.
"Val," Her bottom lip quivered. Valerius opened his arms and Valentina threw herself in them, careful to avoid his wound. She wrapped her arms around him tightly, clutching his body. Her body shook with cries as she buried her face in his neck.
"Shh," Valerius caressed her hair, "Don't cry, Valentina." He gently shushed her, but this only made her cry more. She pulled away and ran her hand over his face and hair, "You are here."
Valerius nodded, "I am," His hoarse voice sent a comforting wave through her, "I would never leave you."
Valentina smiled through the tears, "You are not allowed to."
"Neither are you." He placed his forehead against hers.
Her eyes widened when she realized his state, "I need to call the doctor!" She was about to leave but Valerius grabbed her wrist, "I do not need a doctor. I need you."
"But I need to inform Dimitri and your grandfather."
His eyes darkened at the mention of his grandfather, but he said nothing. Valentina took this opportunity to leave his hold, "I will be back." She ran out of the room ignoring his calls.
