They Don't Know About Us

3 Years Later

I smiled as I looked at the calendar. Tomorrow’s date was circled in red. My 21st birthday. My eyes flicked back to today’s space. Harry comes home.

I felt that little knot of worry in my stomach resurface. I had to tell him.

I forced myself to take deep breaths. It was going to be okay. Everything was going to be fine.

I glanced at the clock and sighed. I had better go get ready. Harry was taking me out to dinner tonight, just the two of us. Tomorrow night would be hectic enough. Louis and Niall were throwing my birthday party.

I ran upstairs to get changed, dodging cardboard boxes. We had moved into our first proper house last week. And by we, I mean that I moved, with Louis’ help. Harry was still away on his business trip. I had a feeling there was something going on with the band. Harry had been going away more and more recently. I hoped everything was alright. I loved those boys to death, and it would be very emotional if the band broke up.

I found our new bedroom and dug out a dress. I smiled. Cecilia had given me this dress. God, I missed her. She and Zayn were on vacation at the moment. Hawaii I think.

I pulled on the dress and searched the room for a box that might contain shoes. That one looked hopeful. I tore it open and was surprised to find not shoes, but picture frames. The one sitting on the top facing me was a good one. I felt tears creeping into my eyes as I picked up the picture, soaking in the memories.

It was taken at Cecilia’s nineteenth birthday, the month after the American tour. Wow. We all looked so much younger. I smiled as I ran my finger over the familiar faces. Ella and Danielle. Ella and Niall had broken up not long after that photo was taken, she had gone to work on a research station in Antarctica, and they didn’t think they could keep up the long distance relationship. Liam and Danielle had also broken up that year, it had all gotten just a bit too much for Danielle. She had been getting hate on Twitter and they were separated so much. We still occasionally saw her with Eleanor though. Liam was going out with a girl called Holly, but Niall was still single.

Louis and Eleanor were going strong, as with me and Harry. Zayn and Cecilia were on and off quite a bit, but they had been together for a few months now.

Funny, after four years together, none of us were married. Not even engaged. It was understandable, we were all still very young. Although, I suspected Louis and Eleanor were getting pretty serious.

I closed up the box and kept searching for my shoes. I finally found a pair of black high heels, and deemed them suitable for the night. I grabbed a purse and hobbled my way back down the stairs, pulling my shoes on as I went.

I glanced at the clock again. Harry should be here by now. What if something happened...

Don’t overreact. He’s probably just stuck in traffic. I told myself.

I breathed in deeply through my nose, and felt that twinge in my stomach again. I was going to be sick. I should probably sit down.

I flopped onto the couch and closed my eyes. My back was killing me. Louis hadn’t been that helpful moving.

I only had a few minutes of peace before the door opened. Not the front door, like I was expecting. The back door.

My eyes flew open as I heard footsteps. That wasn’t Harry. Harry would have come in the front. Someone was in my house. My heart pounded as the footsteps came closer. I dived off the couch, flicked off the light and hid in the corner near the TV. Should I call the police? Damn! I left my phone on the kitchen counter. My head thudded as the person walked across the hall, then stopped by the couch. I couldn’t see the person, only hear their breathing. I squeezed my eyes shut, willing they wouldn’t find me. Yeah right. All they had to do was turn on the lights.
