Under the Weather

“Jenna.” A female voice said. Was that Christy? Then the events of yesterday came flashing back to me.

I sat up quickly, making Isabel jump away in surprise.

“Sorry.” I said. “Just a little overwhelmed.”

She nodded. “I’ll bet. I have to go to work in half an hour, do you want to come? I waitress at a cafe down the road.”

I nodded, seeing as I had nothing else to do today except hide. Isabel gave me another set of clothes and then went to make herself breakfast. She offered me something but I insisted I wasn’t hungry. Really, I was just worried that if I ate something I would immediately throw it up again.

I changed into Issy’s jeans and tank top. The jeans were a little loose, but overall it was a good fit.

“Ready?” Isabel asked as I walked in the kitchen. I nodded, and we made our way down the stairs.

It was a nice day outside, despite my miserable mood. Isabel chattered on about her work, the weather, anything and everything besides One Direction. She opened the cafe door and the smell of coffee hit me like a wall.

“Want some caffeine?” Issy called out, ducking behind the counter and pulling a black apron on.

I sat down at a table away from the window and watched her start up the machines. “No thanks.”

“Let me know if you change your mind.” She said. I nodded and leaned back against the wall. Isabel turned the radio on and sang along as she opened up the cafe.

I almost fell off my chair when the radio presenter started speaking.

“It’s five past eight and this morning we have five very special guests joining us, that’s right girls, it’s One Direction!”

Isabel stopped setting up tables and turned up the radio.

“Hello!” Four familiar voices cried out. I winced. Where was Harry?

“Right then, how are you all doing this morning?” The presenter said. No answer.

“Actually, not too good.” Liam said. I bit my lip.

“So I’ve heard. Now boys, you came on the show this morning for a reason. Would you like to explain this?”

Here it comes.

“Uh, yeah. A very good friend of ours went missing last night, and we really just want to know she’s okay. If anyone’s seen Jenna, please can you let us know.” Zayn said. My bottom lip started trembling.

“All right, so if anyone out there in LA has seen Jenna, please call in so we can make sure she’s okay.” The radio presenter said. “Right, next song is Breathe by Taylor Swift, thank you One Direction for your time.”

Issy quickly reached over and turned the radio down. “Jenna?”

I looked up at her, pain filling my eyes.

Her eyebrows knitted together with concern. “Don’t you think you should call them? Let them know you’re okay?”

“I’m not okay.” I choked out. Isabel rushed over and held me while I cried. I tried to slow down my breathing and eventually pulled back.

“I’m going to call Cecilia.” I said. Issy smiled at me and was about to say something when the cafe door dinged opened and an elderly man walked in. She dodged back behind the counter to help him and I pulled out my phone.

I turned it on slowly, trying to stall myself even though I knew it was the right thing to do. I tapped in Cecilia’s number manually, rather then going to my contact’s list. She picked up on the first ring, and sounded absolutely frazzled.
