Chapter Seventeen: Escape?

Alarms rang through the prison, and all cells were unlocked by an unknown hacker. Every criminal took this opportunity to escape the prison.

Zero looked around as the deafening alarm blared into his large ears. He looked around and noticed his cell was open, he raised an eye ridge at this but shrugged and sat down on his bed again.

"I must stay put" Zero spoke to himself. "If I escape I'll only be caught and sent back here for possibly longer than necessary. I need to get out, yes, but when I'm allowed to by the Resistance" he sighed and hugged his legs, waiting for everyone to be returned to their cells.

It had been two years already, he was already sick of this place, not to mention getting physically sick by the bugs spread around the jail. He had recently recovered from the common cold, but it still hit like a bitch to him. Aurora was almost three now and Gadget has been teaching her now that she can fully walk, talk and understand basic math and english.

It hurt when Zero couldn't be around as Aurora learned and grew, not to mention he and Gadget have grown too; Zero now being in his late twenties like Gadget.

As Zero contemplated, his trail of thought was interrupted by none only than Shadow at his cell. Zero looked at the hedgehog questionably, he didn't have any visitors today. Shadow teleported into the cell, "I would have thought you'd follow the others that escaped" he grunted and leaned against a wall.

"No, I am loyal to keeping my behaviour good, and I also have common sense because if I did escape I'd just be caught and brought back here so it's pointless" Zero explained and sat on the edge of his mattress.

"Good to see you have common sense" Shadow smirked. "But that's not why I am here" he stood up properly and looked at the jackal.

"We have been specifically tracking your behaviour since you got here, and it has been perfect since then" Shadow explained.

"So, me and the Resistance have decided to set you free"

Zero shot his gaze to Shadow, "Wh-what?" he stuttered.

Shadow smirked. "We will set you free, but you will remain on probation for the five years we stated" he explained. "Now, let's go. Do not take my kindness for granted because I still hate you" he growled and exited the cell.

Zero nodded and immediately followed the ebony hedgehog, he saved his tears for when he got to hold his family again. Shadow allowed Zero to call Gadget to let him know what's happened before he changed out of his prison suit into his clothes that surprisingly still fit him.

"I will take you to your home" Shadow put his hand on Zero's shoulder.

"Chaos CONTROL!"

As the two males arrived at the clearing in the woods, Gadget - and a now walking Aurora, were waiting at the spot where the underground base was.

Zero spotted his wolf and ran to him, tackling him in a huge bear hug on the ground, Aurora giggled and flopped on top of her jackal father.

"Zero!" Gadget grinned and hugged his lover, Zero grinned back and lathered kisses over Gadget's face.

Shadow grunted and teleported off to the Resistance to report back the news.

"I'm here now" Zero's eyes leaked with salty water, he hugged his wolf again before feeling a weight over his back, "Aurora?" he smiled. Aurora got off her father's back and let him stand up, she then hugged her father's leg as she still wasn't tall enough to properly hug him. "Come here you" Zero picked up Aurora and hugged her tightly, Aurora giggled and wrapped her small arms around him, "Daddy!"

"Let's go home" Zero kissed Gadget's cheek and placed Aurora down, he held his two wolf's hands and Gadget teleported them to the base Zero greatly missed.
