"she was the type of person who'd explain how she was going to stab you in the front before she actually shoved the knife in... and you'd let her.
she'd probably even pass the knife to you so you can shove it in your own chest...and you would."

t o m s h o u l d have expected that neither side of this game would give in, and the longer it went on, the less he saw of Evelyn. He hated that she was so stubborn. Hated that he was more so.
It had been months of posturing between them, and the only reward Tom had gotten out of it was the most annoying person to grace the planet Earth. He had tried so very hard to be civil with Calista. He had thought of every single way to get her to be more likable, but she simply could never be anything other than horrible. She talked so much that Tom thought about just biting her tongue off whenever they kissed. He had been given so many tempting opportunities that he had started praising himself for his self-control.
He figured that Calista would have caught on to something being off about their relationship, but she was happy simpering and dragging him between classes. He thought perhaps, because of her passion for never shutting up, that she would be upset that every time he had grown tired of her opening her mouth, he would just kiss her. She hadn't, and now Tom had kissed so much that he had lost the illusion of kissing ever being considered fun.
The biggest problem in the whole Calista ordeal was Evelyn. She was actually respectful, or at least in the way that Evelyn could be. She had kept her word about not being caught alone with Tom and graciously nodded out of any conversation Calista joined, which was about every one of them if Calista could help it.
For her part, Calista forbade the two of them from talking after the fifth time Evelyn hadn't found another spot at the dinner table. Tom laughed in her face when she told him this, making it very clear that she would not order him to do anything. When she went to argue, it had been one of the more brutal snogging sessions. Evelyn, though, soon started finding other places to sit. Most of them included her steady boyfriend, Caspian Romano.
Tom had watched the couple very closely over the last couple of months. He hadn't meant to, but they drew everyone's attention. The pair were like American Hollywood stars, with how the students talked about them. Even more than they had talked about him. It was agonizing and yet hypnotizing to watch the two together.
They didn't act like a normal couple would. Of course, there were sightings of makeout sessions, but they were rare. They hung out together almost exclusively the longer the months dragged on, and yet they didn't seem as crazy about each other as other couples were. They looked happy around each other, but they were more like close friends than anything else.
Abraxas Malfoy had mentioned that he had been surprised at first when they first started going out because the rumors the previous year had been that Caspian had been caught in the Quidditch locker rooms with the captain of the Ravenclaw team, but the rumors had been heavily denied. Abraxas then explained that there was no way that it would have been true if he had been able to become Evelyn's first and only open boyfriend. Tom had told him to shut up after that.
