if it was a talent to be able to trip over every root or rock like Calista had the entirety of the way to Hogsmeade. The amount of times she had gripped his arm in order to steady herself had to have some kind of standing record. He was slowly learning that the actual test of his acting had shown itself before the date had even begun.

Calista's heel tipped over again, her hands coming to grip his arm again.

"Oh!" Calista exclaimed as if just as surprised the hundredth time that she had turned her ankle. "I don't know what it is with this road today, but I can't seem to keep my balance."

"I can see that," Tom sneered but gripped tighter to the girl's arm.
"Would it be easier if you just held onto my arm for the rest of the walk?"

"That is so kind of you!" Calista chirped as she snuggled into his side. "You are much warmer."

"I suppose that is because I am wearing the proper attire for cool weather," Tom huffed and knew it was the wrong thing to say when Calista gasped, hurt.

"I just didn't know it would be so chilly out," Calista said, looking down at the ground below.

Tom looked down at the girl and realized this whole thing was going to end if he couldn't play the part of a good partner. How did Evelyn just put up with people? She must have learned some way to manipulate them into liking her. The mind control she so quickly mastered must play some part in it.

He decided to play it like Evelyn would. He tilted Calista's head towards him. She looked up at him so wholly unaware when he quickly shifted through her wants and needs.

The girl wanted him to hold her, to keep her close, to kiss her. She was more simple than Tom even knew. Tom wanted her to at least have some kind of exceptional thought in the mix of that, and then he saw it. Her need to be seen, her absolute obsession with being the best and getting the best. Tom to her was that, and Tom could use that against her.

Tom pulled her closer to his body when he exited her head.

"That was so interesting, I thought-"

"Never mind that, Calista," Tom soothed. "Think about us. Have you thought about where you would like to go? I was thinking about the Three Broom Sticks."

"That's not normally where couples go on their first date."

"Yes, but I thought perhaps it would be warmer, darker," Tom reasoned. "More people to see the two of us together."
