returned to normal the next day. Tom hated that her appearance had made him feel as if he could breathe again. Her whispered words and their constant back-and-forths throughout class had made him want to laugh. Just her smile made him want to tell her never to leave again.

He was excited to show Evelyn the development in his Legilimency. He had been practicing for the entire month she had been absent. He had been successful only a handful of times. Embarrassingly, it was only when he was trying to learn anything about Evelyn that he had succeeded.

This is why he took his time after his prefect duties to meet her at the Room of Requirement. He was ecstatic to have another lesson, but he didn't want her to know just how much. He even stopped to scold a Slytherin girl for being out after curfew, something he would have never bothered to do when visiting the Room before.

Evelyn was leaning against the door, smoking. Her head tilted up toward the ceiling. He watched as she brought the muggle cigarette up to her mouth before slowly exhaling a cloud of smoke into the sky.

Tom took a step forward to see her completely. The corridor was dark this late at night, and he thought the image of her standing there was something he needed to experience fully.

Her eyes lazily turned to him in the empty corridor. They glowed in the emberst of the cigarette.

"There you are," she hummed before waving her hand around her head. The cigarette between her fingers disappeared into the cloud of smoke.

She turned around and walked through the door. It shimmered slightly as she passed through. Tom sped up to go in after her.

The room was darker than even the corridor. The only light that of the moon spilling over the floor. Evelyn had already seated herself into her chair. Her fingers drummed against the arm of it, impatient. Tom smoothly slid into his own, the chair softer and more inviting than the last time he had sat in it.

"Good Evening, Evelyn."

Evelyn turned her head toward him, bored, before saying, "It would be if you weren't so dreadfully late. My life doesn't revolve around you."

Tom laughed in disbelief, "How was I supposed to arrive any earlier? I had my prefect duties."

"I am very aware of your prefect duties. I also know where you had them, in the east wing of the castle on the 5th floor," Evelyn paused as if this explained everything. When Tom stayed quiet, she continued, "I also assumed you were excited about tonight's lesson and that you would have been in a bit more of a hurry to get here. But here I am waiting on you 15 minutes past the time I expected you."

Tom laughed again, "You are being ridiculous."

Evelyn sat forward. "No, I am simply confused about why I had to wait on you."
