I'm going to beat his face in. Is all I can think as I book it too the ICU. He can't get away with this anymore. Maybe I can convince Brooke to press charges. Who am I kidding, she would never do that. I think about going to get Adam, he's really good at the whole bad cop thing.

When I find myself standing at the doorway of Dan's room, a wave of something washes over me. I don't know if I've ever felt like this before. Seeing Annie asleep next to her dad's bed makes me more than angry. She had to know that Brooke was here, hell they are only a floor apart. How could she not even check in?

I couldn't bring myself to walk in, it's even more evident now that I'm all that Brooke has. Her sister couldn't have even been bothered to make sure she was alive. When I see the text that Mouse had sent me saying to meet him at my apartment, it only confirmed my decision to walk away. He has a way of keeping me out of trouble.

When I make to my door, Mouse is leaning against the wall holding a duffel bag, "You loose your key?" I ask, sticking mine in the door.

"No, I just wanted to wait for you to go in." He says sarcastically as he follows me in. I scoff and throw my jacket over the back of the couch. I don't waste anytime opening the six-pack in my fridge, tossing a beer to Mouse as he enters the kitchen. It's almost midnight, I didn't realize how long I was at the hospital. "So who is this girl?" I shoot him a glare and take a big swig. Hindsight, I should probably be drinking coffee, but today has put me through the wringer. "Come on man, you had me fly here from D.C."

I sigh, "She's my new partner, her names Brooke, you know all this." Mouse chuckles and shakes his head.

"You know that's not what I meant. I mean, who is she that she's got you wound up?" I follow him to my tiny living room and throw myself on the couch.

"So you're saying that you wouldn't flip out if the person you were supposed to protect almost died?" I snap.

"Well I wouldn't sleep in her hospital bed with her." My eyes go wide, "I have my sources, don't look so surprised." I shake my head and down the rest of my beer. "Is there something going on there or are you just pining?"

I glare at him, but he just looks amused, "We've kissed, that's all."

"Jay-"

"I know, I shouldn't know better after Erin. Workplace relationships don't work, you don't have to tell me." I sigh.

"That's not what I was going to say." He leans forward, "You deserve to be happy and if you think she will make you happy, then go for it." He takes a big drink, "Plus she's hot."

I slap his arm and stand, "I should get back in case she wakes up." He nods, smiling and I head to change, grabbing an extra t-shirt in case she wants it. Walking out the door, I take a deep breath and head back to my gorgeous partner.

I hate hospitals. It's not secret to anyone, well anyone except Brooke. Walking through the otherwise dead ED is strange, I have never seen it like this, I've heard from Will that night shift is only one of two extremes: nothing or absolutely insane. Luckily for me, tonight was calm, I'm not in the mood to fight nurses for updates or dodge stretchers right now.

Another thing that I was not in the mood for: Brooke's sister. When I enter her room, I find her in the chair I called home for the past 10 hours. She looks up at me and gives me a shy smile, she stands awkwardly as I stay perched against the door frame. "Jay right?" She asks quietly.

"Yeah," I say a little too harshly. She nods her head and plays with her fingers.

"Is she going to be okay?" She asks.
