I wake up to the unfortunate sound of my alarm, the events of last night quickly flooding back. I turn over and shut off my phone, getting out of bed against my will. I turn on my bathroom light and I seriously consider turning it back off after seeing the sight in the mirror. I look like death. I jump in the shower, hoping the water would just wash away everything that happened yesterday.
After taking longer than normal to get ready, I head out the door, noticing then that my car is at the district. Shit. I spend the next five minutes convincing myself that calling Jay is a good idea. He isn't a bad guy, he would never hurt me like he hurt that guy. I think. Before I can talk myself out of it I press the call button on his contact. He answers on the first ring.
J: Hey.
B: Hi.
J: Are you ok?
B: Yeah, uh, I left my car at the district last night, cou-
J: I'm on my way.
He hangs up before I can even process what he said. I guess it was selfish of me to call him, he doesn't exactly live close to me, but he's the only person I could think of that I could call. Jay seems too perfect. He always says the exact right thing, but you can tell that he thinks he said the wrong thing. He really is a mystery. I thought I had him figured out, but after last night I don't know what he's capable of. I want to write it off as a drunken mistake, but I can't because that would make everything my father ever did a drunken mistake, and I refuse to throw Jay in the same pool as him. By the time Jay texts me saying he's here, I'm a nervous wreck. I don't have any clue of how to handle this situation.
I make my way out to the truck, giving Jay as shy smile as I climb in. "Hey," He says sadly, he looks worse than I do, "About last night, I am so sorry, I just-"
"Halstead, I thought we agreed we weren't going to talk about it." I snap, he looks hurt, we had been on a first names only basis. I have to set my boundaries though, we got through too fast and look where it got me. How can I be a cop if I don't even trust my own partner? Maybe I could ask to switch.
"Okay." The rest of the ride is in an awkward silence. This cannot be my everyday. I mutter a thank you as we pull up and get out as fast I can. Bee-lining for the stairs, I catch the metal gate before it shuts behind Adam, who gives me a bright smile. I smile back, falling in step with him as we make the rest of the way up the stairs. Not long after I take a seat at my desk, Atwater and Burgess burst out of the back hallway.
"We got a hit off the wire!" Burgess exclaims as she slaps a photo on the board, "Alfonso Perez, he owns a high end hotel downtown called The Hallot. It's one of the nicest hotels in Chicago, a hotspot for successful businessman, celebrities, you name it. They have it."
"It's also a great way to hide a trafficking network." Atwater explains as he joins Kim. He puts a set of blue prints up on the board. "Quartez called Perez 6 times in the past 14 hours. Obviously something is going down."He points at the blueprints, "As you can see here, there is a 17th floor, but on the hotel's website, there are no room listings for the 17th floor. On the blue prints you can see that there is a storage room in the basement that is only connected to two places, Alfonso's private parking area and an elevator that only goes to the 17th floor."
I start to catch on, "So the girls are held in the storage room and pimped out to buyers on the 17th floor without ever being seen."
Kevin nods, "That's what we're thinking. We just need proof."
Voight stands and starts to give out orders. "Alright. Ruzek and Atwater, you two will go under as buyers. Halstead and Hudson, pack a bad, you're going to go undercover as newly weds staying at the hotel. That way you can possibly give us access after hours." Voight keeps talking but I zone out. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what he just said, I have to stay in hotel room with just Jay for the next few nights, and make everyone belive we're in love. I'm giving up. "There are two lives on the line, we work fast and undetected. Halstead meet your wife for the next few days, this has to be 100% solid, you two will be our only consistent eyes inside the hotel."
Jay and I both nod. I knew being in this unit would be intense, but it's day three and I'm already going deep undercover, I wasn't ready for this.
"I guess we should go look for some fake wedding rings," Jay says, chuckling as he leans on my desk. I nod, giving him a slight smile, but never making eye contact. "Brooke I thought we were moving past this."
I stand and look him in the eye. "We are, I am." I head to the locker room, feeling myself begin to panick. I splash some water on my face and take a few deep breaths. It's only a few days, I can do this. It's my job, plus, It's all fake. We're going undercover. When this is over hopefully I will have proved myself to Voight and I can ask to switch partners. It will be fine. Oh, I am so not ready for this.
A/N: I'm sorry, I know this is short, but it was just a filler chapter. Chapter 6 is going to be loaded!
