EIGHT; PROMISES

JACOB HAD LEFT ONLY AN hour ago and he was already back. My head fell up and down on Jasper's hard chest. "Do you think he just likes it here? I think he secretly does you know?" My comments made Jasper him boom with laughter beneath me. I had been lying on him since mine and Jacobs confrontation, it was nice. "You don't think?"

He looked down at me. "I think you're right darlin. He absolutely love us all, especially you" 

My hand lifted up and swatted him on the leg. "Ha-ha! So funny"

"You really don't like him do you?" 

I sat up on the couch and fixed my hair. "It's not that I don't like him. We used to be best friends" He made a shocked face. "We did really! The best of friends. He's the one that totally dropped me when I was turned, it hurt the soul"

His hand twirled the ends of my hair. "So you've turned that into hate?" I nodded. "Fair enough. He's an royal ass"

I mimicked his southern accent and pretended to tip my hat. "Yes ma'am" We were stopped laughing by Jacob and Carlisle storming into the room, deep in conversation. We both sat up alert, it sounded serious.

"We're not fighting them. We can't break the treaty"

"Fights? Who's fighting who?" I turned to face them, still sitting cross-legged beside Jasper.

"Nobody is fighting anyone" Carlisle, always the peacekeeper.

I was a bit bummed honestly. Turns out Jacob had actually came to warn us, so I gave him points for that. The wolves were coming for Bella, dead set on killing her baby before it was born. I had stated many times that they'd need to go through my dead body before they even get a sniff of her. Jasper sided with me too, he was good at this. 

"We speak like civilized people. They'll understand once they know where we're coming from, that Bella isn't a threat" Rose had joined us now, she was sided with me.

"That won't work. They're dead set on killing it before it can kill them" Jacob's head fell into his hands.

I shook my head. "We're hungry" I was right, the fridge blood was good but nobody had proper hunted in weeks and the pitch black eyes in the room pleaded the fifth. "We won't be able to fight to the full potential" I begrudged telling Jacob we were weak, for all I knew he could be here on Sam's side and was out to get us all, he had enough motivation.

Emmett shook his head in agreement. "Scar's right"

We all heard Bella in the other room, her heartbeat was picking up fast. Carlisle stood up first and I quickly followed. We walked in and she was doubled over with Edward rubbing her back. She convulsed and vomited up dark blood, I ran over, looking at Carlisle for help. He motioned to his study. "Bring her through here, her pulse is too low"

Edward's face fell as we carried her through to Carlisle's study, she was shaking and her breathing was incredibly rapid. "What do we do?"

"Get her more blood" I nodded and ran towards the fridge. Bella had been drinking blood to keep her strength up, I had to keep Jasper away while he was hungry. I picked up the last bag and sped back to his study. He swiftly put it in the cup and helped Bella drink.

Her pulse picked up and everyone audibly sighed. "Good. That sounds good"

Edward huffed and stormed out of the room, I rubbed my fingers over Bella's palm comfortingly. "Don't worry. It's only because he blames himself"

She nodded. "I wish he wouldn't. He blames himself so much its consuming him" She was right, it was almost painful watching Bella and Edward converse during the pregnancy. 

"Once you've gave birth he'll get over it and have a beautiful baby. Just think about then" I couldn't wait for that.

"Bella.." Carlisle broke our uplifting conversation. "There's something that you should know about the fetus" 

"Tell me" She nodded and he continued. 

"The fetus is incompatible with your body. It's too strong, it won't allow you to get the nutrition you need. It's starving you by the hour, I can't stop it and I can't slow it down. At this rate your heart will give out before you can deliver" My stomach dropped. He had just basically told her she was going to die.

My heart broke into a million pieces and bled like a river inside. Tears fell down my face. "Venom can heal her though? She'll be turned?"

Bella looked at him hopefully. He shook his head and I grabbed her hand tighter. "Venom can only do so much. And it seems in this case it won't be able to help" His hand pet Bella's shoulder and his clipboard was placed on the bench. "I'll leave you alone"

We sat in silence for what seemed like hours. My face was wet from crying and my lip quivered as I remembered all of our amazing moments that would cease to exist when she was gone. "I can't lose you"

Her frail face smiled at me. "You won't lose me completely. You'll have a little piece of me to love forever"

"It won't be the same, I need you"

"Promise me that you'll love him, and you'll take care of Edward" I closed my eyes and more tears fell.

"I promise"

Brb crying. I could not imagine losing my sister, I thought this was very cute. Family is so important - I lost my father to cancer a few years ago and my granny was diagnosed with breast cancer a few days ago. Tell those around you that you love them, you never know when it'll be the last time.
