It is a dazzling, cloudless day. Breathing in the air, I take in the light scent of lilies which possess their own private nook near the pond. The smell of wet dirt and damp leaves is even refreshing. I gaze out onto the water reminiscing about past times with my parents. This is a beautiful spot in the park, peaceful, quiet.

I decided to come here instead of heading straight home and I understand prolonging the trip will only make Megan restless. Though, I needed to clear my head and even though I've not been here in years, its beauty could calm the nerves of a raging bear.

I start to hear loose rocks being moved from footsteps behind me but try to ignore their sound as they drag across the path.

"Lynnette?" My stomach sinks.

Recognizing his voice, too instantly, I respond. "Hi, Kyle."

"Is this seat taken?"

I shake my head and keep gazing at the beautiful scene.

"Do you come here often? I don't think I've seen you here before?" He sits next to me almost like he's a warm light.

"No, I don't. I used to when I was young. What brings you here?"

I glance at him and his white teeth sparkle as he lifts the camera in response. It is an old fashioned one, not automatic, but a manual black one with a twist lens.

"You're taking pictures?"

"Yeah," He runs his hands through his hair, pushed back, the black surrounds his crystal blue eyes. "I'm fascinated with how people interact, so I like to observe and take pictures. It's probably part of the reason I want to be a Psychologist." He lowers his head. "I recognize your aversion for them, and I hope that doesn't give you ill feelings towards me."

"No, they're fine." I assure him, but he is my only influence in beginning to accept the idea of them.

"What brings you out here?" Curiosity sparks in his crystal eyes yet again.

"To think. I've been reminiscing."

"What about? If I may ask?"

I nod and begin to tell him the last thing I was thinking about. My parents and I used to go out on the pedal boats. They would pedal, since my legs were too short to reach, and I would sit in the middle watching everything. I loved to peer at the ducks and all the other creatures we would pass by.

I peak at Kyle and he is watching me in awe, "Your parents sound very caring."

"Yes, they were." I put emphasis on the last word.

"Were?" Kyle questions. I don't respond, slumping down. He acknowledges by nodding.

"I should go; my roommate's waiting on me."

"Alright, I'll catch you later, and thanks for the story." He waves at me as I walk away and picks up his camera to take more pictures.

"Bye." I realize keeping distance from him might be impossible. Maybe I can be friends with him I encourage myself, but deep down I apprehend I will want so much more.

When I get home, Megan is watching the television, rapidly tapping her foot as she waits impatiently. I close the door and she jumps out of her seat. "Lynn, where have you been?" She demands like a mother with a teenage girl who was out all night.
