I'm not afraid to tell my story to the group members anymore and strangely unlike the other times I've seen him, I'm happy he's here. My lips automatically curl and my insides become full of bubbles.
His eyes wonder from the screen to me and it's an instant spark.
He smiles.
My smile stretches.
His green eyes hook me and pull me closer, until I'm next to him.
After a brief pause, his eyes snap open wide and he jolts up, "Did you need the computer?"
"Actually I should check my e-mail to tell if Joy said anything."
Austin takes in a breath and relaxes himself. Now smiling, he waves his hands assuring me to the seat.
My head lowers bashfully and my stomach tingles as I sit down. "Thank you."
He leans in to read the e-mail. His arm hovering over the back of my chair and his face close to mine.
I take in a quick breath as a rush of nervousness and excitement comes over me.
Austin pulls back hearing it, "Oh I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that." Need reflects in his eyes, a person who hasn't seen water in a long time, but is still afraid to take a drink.
I swallow a lump I didn't even realize formed, "No, it's alright."
"You're sure?" his dark brow arches.
I nod.
He stares at me as if hesitant then his hand rests back on my chair and his face returns to the screen.
The message from Joy was short and sweet:
Good luck with today's session.
Call me and inform me of the outcome when it's over.
Joy
The door expectantly opens and Min comes in.
Austin and I instantly separate.
I spot the Juniper Thyme Austin gave her in her hand. Deep in her dark eyes is the scared girl, but with dignity she comes right up to us, "I'm prepared to tell my story today."
"Min you know the session doesn't start until 6pm?" I ask.
She keeps her eyes on the floor, "Yes, I'll be ready when we start." She squeezes the flower and a petal falls to the floor and then goes to sit in the observation room.
This is when I peer into the observation room and I catch all the snacks and drinks Austin has ready.
As I turn toward him, I don't understand what I am feeling. The best I can describe this is...As if I've opened a door I thought I would find something else. What's there doesn't make me jump but calms me.
The door opens to the lab again. Mae comes in and to my surprise Joey is with her. Mae waves, her expression as friendly as the first time I met her.
Joey stops in front of me, "I decided ta give ya guys anotha shot." His arms fold over his baggy T-shirt.
"Thank you," I say
He ignores me and his brown eyes sweeps grudgingly to Austin, before he marches into the room.
"Thank you for convincing him to come, Mae."
