I have been sitting on Megan's bed for the past twenty minutes as she thumbs through her shirts in her closet letting the hangers screech as they slide across the pole. Every now and then she pauses to tell me more about her date with Matt and how he took her to Le Gôut Charmant. Though, the longer she talks the more jittery my stomach becomes, I think I might get sick.
Maybe this was a bad idea.
She sighs, dreamingly, "I mean the food was delicious! Have you ever had food that even with small, almost baby-like portions managed to fill you up?" A dreamy expression grows on her sun-tanned face.
"No, I haven't. I'm sure the food was wonderful." The Aw I feel for her makes my stomach ease a little. The knots start to uncoil. She seems in a peaceful mood today even with her excited bubbling underneath.
"It was...and he definitely was breath-taking." She recollects herself and clears her throat. "So, do you know where Kyle is going to take you?" She stops and turns to me in order to view my full expression.
"Actually no. He only said to be ready at 7pm." Her question makes me wonder myself where we could go.
Megan takes a quick glance at her fossil watch, squinting her eyes in concentration. "Well, we have thirty minutes." Waving her hand in ease she starts to turn back to the closet and pauses. "Thirty minutes." She repeats with her eyes peeling wide open. "That's not enough time! We need to hurry!" She begins rummaging through the clothes in a panic. "Ha! I found it!" As she pulls out a silky blue blouse her face radiates with satisfaction. "Put this on."
Megan rushes me to try on the silk shirt which feels like I'm close to having nothing on. When I'm done, she immediately yanks my arm and pulls me into the bathroom, so she can start applying my make-up.
"You know this is perfect. You will be with Kyle and I Matt. We will be able to go out on a double date!" Megan says as she puts on my eye shadow. "I don't recall the last time we went on a double date or the last time you went on a date for that matter. I'm glad you're finally dating again." Her voice gushing with enthusiasm.
"Megan this is our first date. And besides, I don't know what's going to happen." My voice trails off.
"Yes, this is true. But you need to live a little." Her face determined. "You like him regardless of what happened in your dream. Besides, I thought you said when he died in your dream you loved him. Isn't that correct?"
"Yes." I glance up at her to the accomplished grin she gives when she is going to prove something.
"You don't love him now do you?" her tone inquisitive.
"No."
"My point exactly. He can't be dying anytime soon. Plus, even though I believe you are psychic, I think what Mistress Sourcha said you should listen to. I mean what she told me came true." Her grin turning back to a dreamy smile. "And you stated yourself, you don't think you're psychic."
I don't reply.
"Ha speechless! It's refreshing to hear the silence of victory!" She raises her arms up above her head.
We laugh together and she starts to spray conditioner in my hair. "Oh, by the way your uncle called, while you were at the library." Her doe eyes deeply focused on me as she styles my curls with her hands.
"What did he say?" my tone hesitant and my stomach tense as I listen for the response.
"He's in Spain cutting a deal of some sort and he's going to try to call you next week. Said he needs to discuss something with you." She says in a carefree manor.
