two: reawakening
★
a young man dressed in black stands before a stone tomb, his glossy doe eyes running over the etched words several times. watching the love of his life die once again, was just as, if not more, painful than the first time. and it could have been because he died due to a merciless curse of a love goddess that did not care, and that goddess being the same one who killed him thousands of years ago.
jeongguk let out a dry laugh, it truly was in the little details that hurt the most, in the jarring similarities and painful events that led up to his eventual passing. it's been a little more than four years since then and jeongguk hadn't figured out how to... process it.
there was sadness, but the kind that mourned for something that wasn't there. or rather someone. jeongguk only met jimin once, then a couple more times but those didn't count, as he was too busy being a nurse than the one nightstand jimin met a couple of months before. he still remembered the note that jimin had left and that's when jeongguk realized, jimin isn't him.
jimin looked like him, in some ways, in personality they were strikingly similar but the moment that his soul connected to namjoon's, was the moment that he wasn't the same.
jeongguk knelt, gently tracing over the etched words. a singular tear escaped his eyes, a small smile appearing on his lips, "out of all of us, why did it have to be you?" he asked, aimlessly to a rock that wouldn't speak back even if he begged. he sighed, laughing once more, it was foolish talking to someone who couldn't answer. there was no doubt that for the past thousands of years, in his every waking moment, jeongguk never stopped blaming himself.
he pulled himself back onto his feet, brushing his hands down his pants. he slowly made his way to his car, his fingers wiping the tear from his cheek haphazardly. he carelessly observed his surroundings, taking his time. an old couple was standing close to each other, with their hands clasped closely together. the corners of his lips pulled into a grim smile. there was something painful ( almost unbearable) about living on this earth, it changes people in a way that the realm of gods couldn't.
a wave of nausea hit him causing him to stumble back, holding his hand over his mouth. then a painful ( nearly explosive) headache followed soon. it was as if something was splitting his brain in two and then squeezing it with the weight of a hundred moons. he collapsed onto his knees, holding his head with both hands. he let out a silent scream, desperate not to attract any kind of attention. his hands trembled violently as they squeezed the tendrils of hair tangled between his fingers. he gasped noisily, sucking in air with an opened mouth. he coughed out, bile spilling onto the grass.
"ha..." he relaxed momentarily when the pain suddenly disappeared as if nothing had happened. the only remnants of the pain were the tears in his eyes and his hair sticking askew. he huffed in confusion, slowly bringing his hands in front of him. there was a warm feeling that gathered at the top of his head and then slowly dripped down. it was so wonderfully familiar, it was blindingly hot, the kind of hot that felt like the sun. it didn't hurt, instead, it felt so achingly good and he felt so whole again. jeongguk laughed, looking up at the sky above of him. it felt like the sun began to melt into his bloodstream and send its warmth and lightness all over his body. delicate golden markings appeared on his skin, little swirls of suns and clouds over his fingers, wrists, and collarbone. on his arms and parts of his face were branches of a tree, with blooms of flowers and many leaves. he closed his eyes, letting the restraints of his mortal body fall to the ground, the weight of his powers crushing the earth underneath him. he opened his eyes, in which a light bloomed brightly from them.
