Chapter 1

"Vanessa, hurry up, Alicia is waiting," Jacob called from downstairs. "Shut up,"I growled, "a girl needs her time to get ready!" I heard him mumble from downstairs. I heard my dad chuckle and say, "I don't know why she bothers with makeup, she's too beautiful as it is." I smiled to myself, my father was amazing.

I looked over myself in the mirror. My wide hips hugged tight from my black skinny jeans and my curvy chest covered by my knitted sweater. My long brown/blonde hair hung in their natural curls all the way to my butt. I smiled at my appearance and ran down the stairs, taking them three at a time.

My two favorite guys smiled at me as I approached then. "You look beautiful baby girl, now get off to school, I have a meeting with Alpha Josiah in twenty minutes," my dad said, checking his watch. Jacob smirked and said, "remind my dad that mom said I wasn't grounded so I'm going out with Alicia today." My dad rolled his eyes and headed out.

I grabbed my bag and Jacob and I left in his car. We were both 17, my birthday was in a week, Jacobs was in 3 weeks. We boasted about how excited we were. We always spent every birthday together since we were 1. It was tradition. We decided to throw a bonfire in the clearing of our packs territory this year. It would no doubt be the biggest party of the year. Jacob was the son of the alpha and me the daughter of the beta of our pack. So we has reputations to uphold.

"Alicia and I will be one year tomorrow," he smiled to himself and I couldn't help but smile either. Alicia was great. She was human, but great nonetheless. She was sweet and understanding, but when it came to Jacob, she was as protective as a human could get. The three of us have been best friends for 2 years now. I loved that they were together. Although, I wondered what would happen when Jacob turned of age. When a wearwolf turns 18, they usually come across their mate, and it's impossible for a wearwolf to mate with a human. Alicia didn't know we were wearwolfs, we weren't allowed to tell but I doubt we'd tell her anyways. She was too innocent to know of the evils our kind had to face on a regular basis.

"What are you going to do for her," I asked, with a smile. He smirked and said, "I want to surprise her. Take her out, maybe shopping and dinner." I knew she'd love that. Hell , she loved anything and everything that Jacob did. "I think that's a great idea," I told him. He nodded in thanks and we pulled into the school parking lot.

We met up with Alicia, Brayden , and Matthew at the entrance of school. Brayden and Matthew were also in our pack: Midnight Sun pack. Our pack was very large, our numbers added up to 403, not counting the pups. So our school had atleast 83 teens from our pack in it. We blended very well, from being trained at a young age to hide our abilities and skills.

"Hey Nessa," Alicia hugged me then turned to kiss Jacob. He smiled at her, adoringly... But not lovingly. I shook my head at the weird thought that just crossed my mind. Ofcourse he loved her, I thought to my inner wolf. She chuckled and said, okaaaaaay. I rolled my eyes in thought as we all walked inside to our lockers. "So," Brayden said, "are you guys excited for your birthday, shit I know I am!" We laughed and Matthew added, "do you realize how big this party will be.... How drunk the girls will be." I scoffed and said, "ugh, you perv!" I smacked his arm and he mockingly said, "you know, Vanessa, I think you just need some di..." I cut him off with, "hey, hold it right there! I don't need anything, especially what's dangling between a males legs." Jacob, Alicia, and Brayden burst out laughing. "Matt, you already know Vanessa is staying a virgin til marriage," Jacob smirked. I felt the blood rise to my cheeks as I changed the subject, "so, have the flyers for the party came in yet?" Jacob shook his head, his arm around Alicia's shoulders," no but I'm sure they will tomorrow." I nodded, thankfully they fell for the subject change.

We all said by to each other and headed off to our classes. My home room was with Jacob so we walked together and took out seats in the back corner, next to the windows.

It was the morning of my birthday. I woke up and jumped out of bed. I ran to my bathroom and got ready. I put on a pair of skinny jeans and a cute sweater and scarf with boots. I heard the doorbell ring and knew it would be Jacob. I got this weird feeling in my chest as my wolf purred at the sound of his name. I ignored it, grabbed my stuff and ran down stairs. My dad let Jacob in and I froze once I seen him. He smelled.... So good.

My wolf was screaming at me to run to him. Jump in his arms and never let go. What is wrong with you I yelled at my wolf. MATE my wolf screamed at me and I froze. Could it really be.... Jacob was my mate. He was smiling at me and walked towards me and beat hugged me. Tingles rippled through my body as my wolf slyly smiled to ourself. "Happy birthday, Nessa," he said, twirling me around before setting me on my feet, "I got you something." He pulled out a long rectangular box from his pocket and handed it to me. I smiled and opened it. A beautiful gold necklace with a diamond eyed wolf was inside. I gazed at it. I smiled and looked up at him, "it's beautiful, Jacob, thank you!" "Anything for my best friend," he smiled. My wolf purred at the 'anything for my' part but growled at the 'best friend'. She was heated, there was no way in hell our mate would friend zone us. I told her to calm down, Jacob wasn't even 18, he wouldn't know who his mate was (me) til then.

My dad hugged me and wished me a happy birthday, handing me a wad of cash before going to meet up with the Alpha. Jacob and I went to his car and then out to breakfast. We had a full English style breakfast and then headed to the pack house. The pack all surrounded me with hugs. Matthew perked up and said, "you're 18, find your mate yet?" I awkwardly chuckled and said, "shuttup Matthew."

  We all went for a run, as a pack, well the teenagers at least. It was amazing. Out minds connected as our thoughts were set free as we ran. The wind flowed through our fur as the earth and all out surroundings melted into our wolves. It was breathtaking. I almost felt bad humans couldn't experience this, this love for our earth, for Mother Nature. The love for our pack, our giant family. I smiled in thought, completely at ease as I ran beside Jacob, the rest of the pack behind us, besides Brayden, who will be Jacobs TIC ( third in command) once he becomes Alpha. I purred to myself at the thought of MY alpha. I made sure to block my thoughts from the others as I took in his abnormally huge wolf. His fur was so black, it had a tint of blue. His paws were gray and his eyes were a bright blue. My alpha, my mate, he was so unique, so beautiful....

   I snapped out of it as we went back to the pack house. It was already 8 at night. Jacob took me to the park. It was sort of tradition on my birthday. We sat on the swings and he looked at me seriously. "You know, I can't put my finger on it, but something's different," he stated. I tensed and said, "what do you mean?" He smirked and said, "it must be the necklace I got you, it really brings out those eyes." I laughed and we just talked and laughed for 4 hours before he drove me home.

   "Goodnight, Vanessa, sweet dreams birthday girl," Jacobs husky voice told me softly, before hugging me goodbye for the night. I trudged up to my room, I was happy, my wolf on the other hand wanted our mate. I shushed her and went to sleep. So much on my mind..
