J E S S I C A's POV
I sat on the chair in his room, and I already felt awkward sitting alone waiting for him to get out of the bathroom. What is it he would like to discuss with me? Probably about work.
After a couple of minutes, the door of his bathroom opened revealing a wet-haired William with a towel over his shoulder. He is already dressed in brown khaki pants and gray wool sweater. I noticed how his hair went into different directions dripping with water.
"Would you like for me to dry your hair with a hair dyer?" I asked innocently, don't want to take actions in impulse. I don't want to scare him away from me being too concern. I didn't wait for him to answer and plugged the hairdryer next to his bed and guided him to sit on a chair.
"What is it you want to talk about?" I asked while starting to comb his hair with my hands. Odd, he lets me do things he hated when I first entered this mansion. I smiled at this sudden progress of our relationship as a boss and a personal assistant.
"I can be harsh with my words, you see. I am not a good man, Jessica. My family loathed me for being this way. Sometimes, I mean what I say, sometimes I say it out of anger. I want you to tell me. Right now. If you'd still like to be in this mansion. You know, I don't like chasing people to work for me, especially those who steal car keys."
I laughed as I gently combing his hair with my fingers and a blow dryer on my other hand. This man is just afraid. He built his walls so thick, and now he is afraid to be left alone again if he lets someone in his bubble.
"First of all, I do not steal your car keys. I don't even know how it ended up in my purse. And... I already like living here. Your mansion is nice, and I love how Ms. Annie cooked for me. I think that are fine reasons for me to stay here. Just don't be too hard on yourself, sir William. Everything is fine with you." We stayed like that until I am done drying his hair.
***
Annie is the sweetest woman I have ever known. She cooked a few desserts and a roasted chicken just for me. She is happy that I am finally back and promised she would take care of Will if he will do something crazy to me again.
"Thank you for coming back, Jessica. If it weren't because of those keys, I would still be putting up with his tantrums."
"I really don't know how those keys end up in my purse, Ms. Annie."
"Darling, just call me Annie. You are now part of the family. And besides, all of us here are so fond of you. They can't keep their mouth shut about you, you know. Oh, good stuff." She smiled and her words instantly warmed my heart.
Ring..
Ring..
"Excuse me, I have to take this call."
"Hello?"
"Ms. Fernandez."
"Hi Mrs. Smith. How may I help you?"
It's so strange for my principal to call me at this hour on my rest day. I can hear she sighs and a faint sound of voicemail playing on the background.
"I saw your email. Sad to say you resigned for the second time. Please settle on your current work, I can't promise if I can still make a spot for you here if you will re-apply again. Okay?"
My tears escaped but with heart full of acceptance and forgiveness. I gather myself around and finally able to talk.
"Thank you for being too understanding Mrs. Smith. Yes, I am hoping I can settle here for good."
