Chapter 13 "Broken Promises"

I felt my eyes slowly pry themselves open and I looked around the room. I let out a sigh as I saw I was in a hospital room. I turned my head and smiled softly when I saw a man asleep on the couch with Ikki, Meelo, and Jinora beside him. I felt a hand holding mine and turned my head to see a woman with white hair asleep.

"Pema?" I whispered.

Her head raised and I saw tears streaming down her face.

"Akari? You're awake." She said with a smile as she quickly stood up.

She cradled my head before pulling me into a hug.

"Pema, five more minutes." He grumbled out.

"Bumi, she's up." Pema said as she pulled away and smiled down at me.

Bumi's eyes snapped open and I turned my head to look at him. I saw tears of his own fall as he quickly stood up knocking the kids to the ground. He ran to my side and let out a laugh as he hugged me tightly.

"Hi, Bumi." I said with a small smile.

"Akari!" Meelo and Ikki yelled as they jumped up onto the bed and hugged me.

"How long was I out?" I asked as I hugged them both back.

"It's been a few weeks." Pema said softly.

"Amon?"

"Gone... no one knows where he is. But he won't be coming back... we learned he was a waterbender and now everyone knows." He said as he gently kissed my forehead.

"What about Korra? And the others?"

"They are all fine. Korra even learned how to return bending." He said happily.

"Good... Pema, are you okay, I didn't-?"

"I'm fine and I also had a son." She said with a small smile as she stood up and picked up a small bundle.

She walked over to me and gently placed him in my arms.

"Hi, aren't you adorable." I said as I coped down at him.

He let out a giggle and reached for my hand.

"Where are we?" I asked as I looked at Bumi.

"Republic City hospital." He explained.

"When can I leave?" I asked as I looked around.

"I'll go ask the doctor." He said as he stood up and left the room.

I was left alone with Pema and the kids. I smiled as Ikki started to draw shapes on my arm.

"Korra was worried to death about you. And so was everyone else." Pema said softly.

"They probably hate me.... I know Lin does."

"Sweetheart, everyone knows you had no choice. No one hates you." She said as she gently took my hand in hers.

Bumi came in with the doctor and he checked me over.

"I will allow her to leave, but she needs plenty of rest... and no traveling." He ordered.

"Of course. Come on, let's get you home." Bumi said as he helped me up.

Pema helped me change into some regular clothes and then we made our way to the air temple. Upon arriving I let out a shaky breath as I saw Tenzin outside. Pema opened my door and I climbed out with shaky feet. She went to help me, but I shook my head no. I slowly pushed off of the car and walked towards him. I stopped in front of him and waited for him to yell or to scream at me.

I had expected anger, maybe even disappointment at seeing me, but I hadn't expected Tenzin's arms to wrap tightly around me and pull me against his chest. I felt tears stream down my face and I hugged him back.

"It's good to have you home." He whispered.

He soon pulled away and whipped the tears away.

"I thought you would hate me." I whispered as I looked up at him.

"No, I could never hate you. Non of us could." He said as he squeezed my hands.

"I..."

"It's okay. Let's go inside. Everyone has been waiting to see you." Tenzin said as he wrapped an arm around my back and led me inside.

Upon making it inside I stopped and saw Korra talking to Bolin, Mako, and the girl from earlier. I held my breath as Tenzin gently led me inside. Upon seeing me Korra stood up and looked at me shocked. I quickly pulled away from Tenzin and let out a sigh.

"I broke my promise." Korra said before I could say anything.

I looked at her confused and she let out a sigh.

"When we first met... we both promised to always protect each other.. and I... I didn't protect you." Korra said as tears streamed down her face.

"How could you of known I was in danger? I pushed you away... but you did save me when I needed you... if not for you and the others... I probably would still be stuck with Amon."

"Please, I would of saved you before that." She said as she pulled me into a hug.

"We're back together!" Bolin exclaimed as he hugged both of us.

I let out a laugh and smiled as Mako hugged us too. I then saw the girl and reached my hand out and pulled her into the hug.

"Don't know your name, but thanks for helping this idiot." I said as she hugged me too.

"I'm Asami, and it was not an easy thing... she is a very stubborn person." She said with a laugh.

"Oh I know." I said as I shook my head.
