Hanbin
[angst ⚠️]
[someone requested this so long ago that he literally became a solo artist in the time I took to post it 😭]
Disappointment was not the first emotion you were expecting to feel when you walked into school on Monday morning, but after everything in your life had been going so well, there was bound to be a catch eventually.
You prided yourself on being a pretty discerning person, so when Hanbin walked up to you two years ago on the first day of your freshman year, you were a little confused as to why someone like him was talking to someone like you. That being said, you were skeptical of his invitation to the movies that coming Friday, even going as far as to ask him if it was a prank and look around for hidden cameras. He assured you he was being serious, so you reluctantly accepted his proposal. To your surprise, you were looking forward to that Friday for the whole week, and that day at the movies was one of the most fun you'd ever had. From there, you progressed to talking in school every day, going on dates often, and eventually the start of your young relationship blossomed.
Your skepticism continued during the beginning of your relationship, but the more you began to fall in love with him, you lost all feelings of distrust.
But now, it was coming full circle. You finally understood where those feelings were coming from. As you stood right behind Hanbins open locker door, (something you'd usually do when you wanted to sneak up on him) you heard him arguing with his friends about the "stupid bet" he made with them two years ago. You knew the voices anywhere. Bobby, Chanwoo, and your boyfriend. You'd spent enough time with the close knit group of friends to differentiate without seeing their faces. Not knowing what to do, you continued to stand there and listen.
"Look, I'm not doing this anymore, it's off"
"Why, you going soft on us?"
You couldn't see his face, but you imagined that if you could he was probably rolling his eyes.
"No, I just don't feel right about it"
Bobby laughed.
"Oooh, someone's in love"
The sound of what you assumed was Bobby getting hit was heard next before Chanwoo spoke up.
"Y/n's a nice girl and all, but she's not that special"
Again there was a silence before your boyfriend spoke.
"That's where you're wrong. You don't know her like I do. Y/n is sweet, kind, compassionate, she's hilarious and she makes great company. I may not have had feelings for her when this started, but I sure as hell do now"
He spoke, reaching behind him to close his locker door, only to come face to face with you. His eyes widened as he saw your crestfallen expression.
"How much did you hear?"
"Enough"
You shook you head.
"I asked you if it was a prank and you said no"
"I know, Y/n and I'm sorry for lying to you-"
"Are you really? Because from what I'm finding out now this relationship was built on lies"
You turned to walk away, but he pulled your hand back.
"Y/n, please listen"
You sighed but gestured for him to continue.
"Look, when this first started I didn't like you at all, and I know it was dumb to play with your emtiontions for a dare, but I really got to like you"
"But you did it because?"
"They dared me to"
He mumbled, and you rolled your eyes.
"Bobby and Chanwoo are jerks, I don't understand why you even hang out with them, let alone listen to them"
Your boyfriend shrugged.
"I was only a dumb freshman back then, I honestly can't tell you why. I just wanted to make friends on the team, and it was all going so well I didn't know how to stop it"
Hanbin had been playing basketball since middle school, but he lived in another town and was new to the district by the time high school rolled around. He was one of many new students that freshman year, so you supposed you could understand his urgency to make friends.
"I guess I can understand that, but how could you lie to me for all that time? I don't appreciate you stringing me along and being fake"
"Don't word it like that"
"But that's what you did!"
He nodded.
"I know"
You sighed again.
"This conversation isn't going anywhere. I'm gonna leave"
You turned, starting to walk down the hallway.
"What?! No, Y/n-"
"Just stop, please. I think we need some time away from each other"
"But, baby-"
"I'm not breaking up with you, Hanbin. I just don't wanna see you right now"
This time you walked away for good. Hearing you physically say you didn't want to be around him hurt more than he could have imagined, and he found himself watching you longingly as you walked in the opposite direction.
That being said, you hadn't spoken to him for the past few days, and having just arrived to school you didn't expect to miss him so much. Normally you'd be together already, but you weren't. Walking the halls by yourself seemed way more lonely.
As you got to your locker, you glanced behind you. The locker across the hall was his. You would usually go over and visit him, but today when you glanced there you weren't so sure. Hanbin looked sluggish, backpack on the floor as he collected his stuff. You sighed, deciding you would go over to him.
As you crossed the hallway, your boyfriend looked up. His eyes widened when he saw you coming he quickly finished unpacking his things.
"Hey"
He greeted you, and you nodded in reply.
"I thought about what you said"
"And?"
"I'm still really disappointed in you, but I meant it when I said I didn't want to break up"
Hanbins face lit up.
"S-so it's not over"
You shook your head.
"No, but you'll have to earn back my trust-"
Becofre you could even finish, he had pulled you into a bone crushing hug.
"Thank you thank you thank you thank you, I promise you I won't take this for granted"
You couldn't help the laugh that escaped at his reaction. He pulled you away slightly so he could look into your eyes.
"I will do everything in my power for you to trust me again, I promise"
If you're wondering if I'm pretending I haven't been gone for 50 million years...yes, yes I am...
