The Will and The Mind

Temptation leads one astray,

Even when one knows he knows better,

He makes exceptions, to escape the mundane ;

The mind puts the will in its place, the future:

there will be better days.

Is it in the ascetic that we take shelter?

Or does one's situation generally display

A covered over, rational play,

Arriving in the mind, afterwards, like a mentor,

reminding you of the will that's been kept at bay.

Agreeableness is flung when your having fun,

At many questions that are asked.

Oh, where is thought in these moments,

         Where is the rational mind!

Why is it so hard to find?

                                     Has it left me behind?

Or have I dispelled it,

                                      its convulsed speech ;

  Instead, like a leech,

                        I copy other's frequent feats,

                                                    Mannerisms, ideas,

                                and find

                                                  agreement in each,

                                                                        feasted on,

                                                                                       like a peach,

By your mind, to submit,

                                               to others,

In them we commit

                                              life,

                                                       life discovers;

                                                      and each,

Added persona, found round where you sit

                                          changes the dynamic,

                                                                                        just a bit.
